CSD Augsburg: For diversity and tolerance – be there on June 14th!

In June, Pride Month, many cities send a strong signal of tolerance and openness. June 14, 2025 will also be dedicated to the celebrations in Augsburg, as the local GREENS city association is taking part in Christopher Street Day (CSD). The goal is clear: to promote a cosmopolitan and fair urban society and to show support for the LGBTQIA* community.

From 10 a.m. the GREENS will be present at the town hall square with an information stand before the parade begins at 12 p.m. and the demo procession is expected to start at 1:30 p.m. The celebrations are part of a global effort to create visibility and acceptance for queer people. It is an important time to unite our commitment to diversity and tolerance and to celebrate the culture of the queer community.

Campaign for Equality and Rights

The CSD serves as a platform to draw attention to the ongoing discrimination and violence against queer people. In Germany, a recent Ipsos poll shows that 73% of Germans have no place for discrimination and support the protection of lesbian, gay and bisexual people. Two-thirds of the population also supports legal equality for same-sex couples, a positive development that leads boldly into the future.

The demands of the GREENS are clear: there is a demand for better protection of the LGBTIQ* in accordance with Article 3 of the Basic Law. They also want complete equality for rainbow families and the reform of parentage law. The implementation of the “Queer Life” action plan, which was decided on November 18, 2022, is also at the top of the list. The aim is to give queer people equal participation, safety and health and, above all, to strengthen the advice and community structures.

Global challenges and local successes

Despite progress here, there is a worrying trend around the world where support for LGBTQIA+ rights has declined. According to the survey, only 50% globally support open lifestyles - a decrease of 5% since 2021. In Germany, however, acceptance remains relatively high, with 47% of the population supporting laws against discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people.

Nevertheless, it should be emphasized that support is becoming weaker among the younger generation, especially among the male members of GenZ. Only 30% of young men show support for queer affection in public, compared to 65% of young women. A worrying difference that needs to be addressed so that acceptance remains at a high level in the future.

Events like the CSD are of immense importance in order to face these challenges together. They not only draw attention to the successes of the LGBTQIA* movement, which began in 1969 at the Stonewall Inn in New York, but also encourage further support and commitment to equal rights. The hosting of the CSD in Augsburg symbolizes today more than ever that cohesion is very important here.
