Steam Days in the Augsburg Railway Park: A family festival for young and old!

Summer not only brings sun and a good mood, but also exciting events. In the Augsburg railway park It's all about the “Steam Days” – the special highlight for railway lovers and families. On five Sundays, starting on July 13th and ending on August 10th, this event attracts young and old with a colorful program.

The railway park gates open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but it remains closed on Mondays. Particular attention is paid to the steam and diesel locomotives, which are on display in the “Rundhaus Europa” and are even put into operation. Beautiful memories of the good old days come to life with the stationary steam engine from 1911, which is also in full swing. For the little guests, a mini train starts their journey through the area to enable them to experience the world of railways in a playful way.

Attractions for the whole family

The steam days radiate a lot of variety. The historic Ammersee steam railway, which runs regularly between Augsburg and Utting, will also be integrated into the railway park during the Steam Days. These steam trains stop near the picturesque Ammersee, where visitors can not only admire the railways but also enjoy activities such as swimming, hiking and boat trips. A term that captures the entire spirit of the event is probably “exciting” – not only through the steaming locomotives, but also through the demonstrations by train drivers and firemen who demonstrate their craft in front of the visitors.

The special highlight of the Steam Days is the arrival of the historic Ammersee steam train from Utting at around 1 p.m. The steam locomotive “41 018” from 1939 fills its boiler with citizens of Augsburg’s “World Heritage Water,” which perfectly captures the symbolism of tradition and regionality. Visitors can not only observe the process of “greasing” the steam locomotive, but can also view the cabs of steam, diesel and electric locomotives and experience the fascination of the technology up close.

A diverse offering

The “Lok-Café”, where visitors can fortify themselves, takes care of a little hunger in between. There is also a special exhibition “View From Above” with impressive photos by NASA astronaut Terry Virts, which gives a different view of the world. There are also some of Bavaria's largest industrial monuments on the site, which are a source of amazement.

The prices for entry to the Steam Days are extremely family-friendly: 5 euros for children, 12 euros for adults and 23 euros for families. If you want to take the Ammersee steam train, you have to budget 19 euros for children and 39 euros for adults. Further details and the timetable can be found below lieslotte as well as on the website Bahnpark-Augsburg.

The Augsburg Railway Park not only impresses with its historical treasures, but also with the opportunity to experience history in a lively way. Anyone who has always had a passion for locomotives or simply wants to spend a fun day with the family should definitely not miss this event!
