Land cycle in Bobingen: setbacks and new paths for the future!

Things got hot in the Augsburg district last weekend, as the rural circuit took place as part of the traditional Laurentiuslauf in Bobingen. The event attracted numerous sports-loving runners who took on the varied ten-kilometer route. District Administrator Martin Sailer and Mayor Klaus Förster congratulated the best participants and presented them with prizes. A total of 51 of 316 athletes took part in the district competition, a nice sign of the local running culture.

Despite the high number of spectators and enthusiasm for the sport, District Administrator Sailer expressed concerns. He noted that participation in the land cycle was declining, which necessitated a revision of the concept. In the future, the rural circuit will be integrated into existing running events to offer participants an even better experience.

A look at the Laurentiuslauf

The Laurentiuslauf itself can look back on a long history and is considered the “mother” of German fun running events. The first German fun run took place in Bobingen back in 1963, making the city an important place for the running community. And the commitment of the organizers remains undiminished. The proceeds from the entry fees flow into a training project at the Bobingen middle school to support students with career orientation.

Another exciting date is already in the starting blocks: The IWB Laurentiuslauf 2025 is scheduled for September 21, 2025. A diverse program is again on offer here, from the children's run over distances of 5.6 km to 23 km. The various routes lead through the picturesque western forests around Augsburg and offer both asphalt and trails.

The newly refreshed concept and integration into existing events could give the land cycle a new boost. In any case, the Laurentius Run is a highlight in the calendar of running enthusiasts in the district and beyond.
