New gastronomic highlights in Augsburg: Balkan cuisine and more!

There's a lot going on in the gastronomy scene in Augsburg! Two new restaurants have recently opened, offering delicious dishes from different cuisines and aiming to delight the population in culinary terms. The new additions are not only interesting, but also a reflection of the diverse gastronomy in Germany, which is an important economic factor.

The first highlight is the Restaurant at Tiffany’s in Augsburg-Göggingen, which has now taken over the former Café Schweiger. An integral part of the city since 1951, a mother-daughter duo is now bringing a breath of fresh air into the house. The menu is a delicate mix of Serbian-Croatian and Bavarian dishes, including Allgäuer Schnitzel and Schwabentopf. Particularly charming: the walls are decorated with old engravings of Augsburg squares, which gives the restaurant a homely atmosphere. It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with hot food served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. - but the restaurant is closed on Sundays. This new culinary destination contributes to the increasing popularity of restaurants, which generated sales of over 67 billion euros in Germany in 2022. An impressive number, right?

Creative cuisine in the Post Bar & Grill

Another exciting restaurant that opened on July 4th is the Post Bar & Grill at the shooting range at Wittelsbacher Park. This restaurant is the latest project from the operators of the well-known Irish pub Flannigan’s Post and impresses with a mixture of Texan and Bavarian cuisine. Look forward to delicacies such as onion rings, fried pickles, chicken wings and of course the Bavarian classics such as schnitzel and Kässspätzle. A look at the facility reveals that the operators have created an unconventional ambience that shines with bright colors, deer antlers and old cart wheels. Opening hours are Tuesday to Thursday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. - everything is closed only on Monday.

Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether the well-known fast food chain Crusty Slices will soon be coming to Augsburg. Rumors on TikTok suggested that we could look forward to sweet and savory croissants. But that remains speculation for now, because the post was removed again. In contrast, the fast food chain Nordsee has closed one of its branches at the Augsburg city market and is now concentrating on the location in the City-Galerie.

The role of gastronomy in Germany

Gastronomy is not only an important part of our leisure activities, but also an important economic factor in this country. According to Statista, the hospitality industry generates around 100.2 billion euros annually - a new record. Around 60 percent of couples, young adults and families like to eat out in restaurants. There are no fewer than 61,500 restaurants and 35,500 snack bars in Germany. This shows that eating out is a popular leisure activity for many people. In addition to traditional catering establishments, new trends such as vegan offerings and sustainable concepts are also on the rise - an area that will certainly become more important in the future.

This means that gastronomy in Augsburg and beyond remains exciting and varied. The new restaurants not only invite you to dine there, but also contribute to the colorful diversity of the German restaurant landscape. It remains to be seen what gastronomic surprises await us in the future.
