Service times in October: Celebrate with the IKG Bamberg!
October 2025 has a special significance for the Jewish community in Bamberg because it brings with it several important holidays. On October 1, 2025, which is also Tishri 9, 5786, Erev Yom Kippur begins with a holiday entry at 6:37 p.m. Before that, Kol Nidre takes place at 6 p.m.: a moment that is just as firmly anchored in many people as the subsequent Slichot prayers, which are held in the synagogue until 10 p.m. It should be noted that the time for registering for the church services should be at the gate at the latest one day before, as the Wiesentbote clarifies.
But what comes after Yom Kippur? On October 2, 2025, Yom Kippur itself, the morning prayer starts at 10:00 a.m., followed by Yiskor from around 12:00 p.m. and Mincha from 2:00 p.m. The Neila begins at 5:30 p.m. and ends with Maariw at around 7:00 p.m. Of course, all subsequent celebration times should not be underestimated, because after all the prayers there is a shared snack from around 8 p.m.
Celebrations in the Sukkah
Another highlight in October is the Festival of Tabernacles, Sukkot, which begins on October 6, 2025 with Erev Sukkot. Candle lighting is on the program at 6:27 p.m., followed by Kabbalat Shabbat at 6:00 p.m. The next day, October 7th, the morning prayer will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Sukkah. The festive end of Shabbat begins on this day at 7:54 p.m. These living traditions are part of an extensive holiday calendar provided by the liberal Jewish community of Bamberg and which serves as a useful guide to all important dates for the community.
The celebrations will continue until October 14, 2025, when Shmini Atzeret and Simchat Torah will be celebrated. On this day, the morning prayer with Jiskor is held at 10:00 a.m. before Simchat Torah, i.e. the joy of the Torah, at 1:00 p.m. The community will also be invited to further celebrations on October 17th and the following days.
A look at further events
The service times also include the arrival of candle lighting on additional Fridays, ushering in Shabbat celebrations on October 24th at 5:50 p.m. and October 31st at 4:37 p.m. Regardless of the holidays, the feeling of community and togetherness is always present and is strengthened by regular gatherings for prayer.
The religious program taking place in October is not only important for the Bamberg community, but also for everyone who values the Jewish faith and its traditions. On days like these, the feeling of being part of a big family is particularly noticeable.
