Closure of the A3: Nights of traffic jams between Geiselwind and Schlüsselfeld!
The A3 motorway in Franconia remains a construction site, as last weekend impressively demonstrated. During the night of Saturday, June 28th, until Sunday morning at 6 a.m., the section between Geiselwind and Schlüsselfeld was closed for bridge work. This highlighted the need for the ongoing expansion to six lanes, which has been ongoing since May 1, 2020. Loud Mercury The A3 is one of the busiest motorway sections in Bavaria and is used by around 80,000 to 100,000 vehicles every day.
The construction work extends over a distance of around 76 kilometers between the Biebelried and Fürth/Erlangen motorway junctions. The aim of the project is to increase capacity and at the same time reduce noise pollution for residents. Water protection is also on the list of priorities. In addition to the six-lane expansion, additional truck parking spaces will be created, such as BR reported.
Detours and construction site operations
The diversion during the closure led in the direction of Nuremberg via the Geiselwind junction, where traffic had to be diverted onto the U9. In the direction of Würzburg, traffic was diverted at Schlüsselfeld and followed the same diversion. The continuous construction sites along the A3 are a challenge for commuters and road users traveling in this region. Nevertheless, the planning of the Federal Ministry of Transport shows that such projects are of outstanding public interest in order to improve the infrastructure and eliminate bottlenecks Car Motor and Sport notes.
The ongoing construction work on the A3 is part of a larger plan that includes 144 transport projects to modernize the transport infrastructure in Germany. The expansion aims to halve the planning times and speed up the approval processes, which is urgently needed given the increasing traffic volumes. The forecasts suggest that freight traffic on roads could grow by 54 percent by 2051.
The six-lane expansion of the A3 is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. This not only improves traffic flow, but also improves the quality of life of residents by reducing noise pollution. However, road users must continue to adapt to temporary restrictions while these necessary measures are implemented. The ongoing commitment to a modern and efficient transport axis is a good sign for mobility in the region.
