Major operation in Fichtelberg: empty building is on fire!

On the evening of June 25, 2025, a dramatic incident occurred in the cinema mix of the Bavarian idyll. An empty company building on Hasenbergstrasse in Fichtelberg burst into flames. According to the local news of In Franconia The fire quickly spread to the roof of the building when the fire department arrived.

The extinguishing work proved to be extremely challenging: around 190 firefighters from three districts were deployed on a large scale, supported by various turntable ladders and the use of heavy respiratory protection. Permanent water pipes had to be laid in order to supply the tank fire engines with sufficient water. So that informed Bayreuther Tagblatt about the extensive measures, which took about two hours.

Challenging mission

The fire had engulfed large parts of the building and required intensive extinguishing work by emergency services. Thanks to the quick and coordinated action, the fire brigade was able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring properties. By using drones, which are increasingly being used in such scenarios, the fire department was able to better explore the situation and identify embers from the air. The use of technology shows how valuable modern aids such as drones have become within the fire brigade, as also shown in the report by Fire Department UB is explained in detail.

A drone from the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) analyzed the area with a thermal imaging camera. This not only ensured an overview of the fire, but also helped to rule out the possibility that people were in the danger area during the operation. Fortunately, there were no injuries among residents or emergency services, as reported by Bayreuther Tagblatt confirmed.

After the storm

The extinguishing work lasted until around 12:30 a.m. into the night, and the fire watch remained on site until around 3:00 a.m. to prevent possible re-ignition. In the meantime, the Bayreuth criminal police have taken over the investigation to clarify the cause of the fire. Such fires often raise questions about safety standards and the proper management of vacant properties.

It will become clear in the near future what lessons need to be learned from this incident. One thing is clear: collaboration and the use of modern technology are crucial to fire protection in our community.
