Young talents for Upper Franconia: New forces strengthen the administration!
There is reason to be happy in Upper Franconia: 23 young talents have successfully completed their training. The official appointment of the candidates took place in two ceremonial events. On October 1, 2025, Government Vice President Thomas Engel and on October 15, District President Florian Luderschmid appointed a total of 10 candidates from the second qualification level as government secretaries and 13 from the third qualification level as government inspectors. Both emphasized the central role of these well-trained specialists in modern and efficient administration in the public sector. As Wiesentbote reports, the new graduates work in various administrative areas such as social affairs, public security, construction and more.
The training of the new government employees lasted two years and included demanding content that is necessary to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world. The last few years have not been exactly easy, marked by the corona pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis. According to the Government of Upper Franconia, it is even more important that the public service has well-trained, flexible and motivated employees who can react to changing situations at short notice.
Challenges and opportunities in public service
The shortage of skilled workers in the public sector is an issue that determines current developments. The PWC report points out that it is necessary to expand existing options for flexible retirement and to make not only training but also the working environment more attractive. For example, easier integration of lateral entrants from the private sector could help alleviate the shortage of skilled workers. The requirements in the public sector should also be more closely tailored to the actual tasks in order to minimize costs and time for retraining.
The digital transformation of the public sector could also be a key to overcoming the challenges. Central image campaigns could help to reposition the public service as an employer and make it more attractive to younger generations. In their speeches, government representatives repeatedly emphasized the importance of digitalization in order to create lean internal agency processes and increase efficiency.
