Discover the adventures in Berchtesgadener Land: Climb and enjoy!

In the picturesque Berchtesgadener Land, where nature speaks from every pore, stories of people and their inseparable connection to the landscape have unfolded. The region impresses with its spectacular scenery and the deeply rooted customs that have lived here for generations. The ZDF.reportage “Holiday in Berchtesgadener Land” shows how diverse life is in this region. We accompany, among others, Niklas Thomas, who, despite his lack of experience, dares to climb a via ferrata to enjoy the breathtaking view over Lake Königssee. A brave decision, because the beauty draws many out into the mountains.

Climbing enthusiasts play a central role in both the report and the subsequent reports. Veronika Veichtmeier in particular, who lives one summer as a dairymaid on a mountain pasture without cell phone reception, impressively conveys the region's attitude to life. She shares her everyday life with cows and cheese and shows how uncomplicated it can be to live in harmony with nature. Oliver Hoeft, on the other hand, as a hut chef in the Kärlingerhaus at 1,600 meters, is responsible for catering for around 140 guests and shows that there is no need to neglect the enjoyment of food even at the height.

Via ferratas for every level

The ten most beautiful via ferratas in Berchtesgadener Land listed by Outdooractive are a true Eldorado for adventure seekers. The via ferrata over the Mannlgrat to the Hoher Göll, for example, has difficulty C and offers an impressive circular tour, especially when descending over the Hohe Brett. Good fitness is required here, as the route is not exactly easy. And if you prefer something a little easier, you can let off steam at Grünstein, where four via ferrata variants await the sporty, all of which are rewarded with a wonderful view over Lake Königssee.

Another attractive via ferrata is the Hochthron, which has been a popular classic since 2007. With difficulty levels from C to D, there is something for everyone here. The Berchtesgaden mountain and via ferrata schools offer a wide variety of courses that are suitable for both beginners and experienced climbers.

Variety of climbing adventures

The via ferratas in Berchtesgadener Land and beyond in Salzburger Land are known for their diversity. Well-known is, among other things, the “Königsjodler”, which is considered the longest and most difficult via ferrata in the region and offers experienced climbers a real adventure. For beginners, we might recommend the Schützensteig on Jenner, which is easier and takes 1 to 1.5 hours to climb.

Nature and the challenges not only bring joy, they also require a head for heights, strength and endurance. In Berchtesgadener Land, these skills are not only required, they also make the climb a unique experience. After all, the feeling when you reach the summit is what makes facing the challenges worth it.

The experiences are rounded off by Oliver Schwab, who works as a miner in the salt mine. His day begins with a prayer, because a level-headed attitude is required before he descends 300 meters into the mountain. This shows once again how closely the people here are connected to nature and what a rich culture there is in the traditional Berchtesgaden Alps.

The Berchtesgadener Land is not just a destination for nature lovers, but a place where outdoor experiences and the way of life of the people have a very special meaning. It is an invitation to experience life here up close and enjoy the unadulterated beauty of nature.

ZDF reports that the region has a close connection between people and nature. Also Outdooractive explains the via ferratas, which offer both challenge and enjoyment. Further information on the various climbing routes in Berchtesgadener Land can also be found at Alpine.
