Klaus Burger remains regional manager of the Chiemgau mountain rescue service – a new era begins!
Klaus (Nik) Burger from Bad Reichenhall remains the captain of the Chiemgau region mountain rescue service. He was recently re-elected as regional manager for another four years and is now entering his third term in office. In the election, which took place in the Reichenhall mountain rescue center, a strong team was put at his side with Michael Holzner from Inzell and the new deputy Stefan Rumpf from Bad Reichenhall. Over 60 mountain rescue managers came together for this important meeting to set the course for the future, in which mountain rescue is constantly facing new challenges.
The new elections brought a breath of fresh air to the region: new leaders were elected in ten out of fifteen, which ushered in a noticeable generational change. Werner Thaler (Bad Reichenhall) succeeds the outgoing Engelbert Mayer (Inzell) as auditor, while Siegfried Fritsch (Freilassing) retains his proven position. The heads of the special groups and departments were also present to discuss the innovations and discuss the future together.
Experience and commitment
The newly formed regional management brings with it a lot of experience. Klaus Burger, an active rescuer and air rescuer, is also the first chairman of the German Expert Group for Alpine Accidents and is responsible for the mountain rescue operations manager training. Holzner was a mountain guide trainer in the Bundeswehr and heads the regional ski patrol, while Stretcher is already known as an on-call leader and head of the avalanche and search dog squad. This concentrated expertise is intended to benefit the mountain rescue service, especially with regard to the almost 550 active emergency services who work in challenging terrain.
The Chiemgau mountain rescue service, which was responsible for 926 operations last year and in which 22 mountain dead people had to be rescued, operates in the districts of Berchtesgadener Land, Traunstein and Altötting. Emergency medicine is particularly challenging in the mountains, where the locations are often difficult to access and take place under adverse conditions. The emergency services are required to provide patients with timely and qualified care, while at the same time having to withstand the vagaries of the weather.
Together for the future
A central point on the new regional management's agenda will be a strategy meeting at which future-oriented training and challenges in mountain rescue will be discussed. The mountain rescue service offers a professional and voluntary platform that is characterized by special specialist groups and highly qualified helpers. Their dedicated work extends throughout the year and affects not only hikers and mountaineers, but also paragliders and winter sports enthusiasts.
With this renewed election of Klaus Burger and the new team at his side, the Chiemgau region is well positioned for the challenges ahead. The mountain rescue service proves that in critical situations it not only thinks about its own safety, but also that of the people who are in the mountains.
The future looks promising, because with a solid foundation of experience, teamwork and perseverance, the Chiemgau Mountain Rescue Region is well prepared to meet the challenges in the Alpine region.
