Bus accident in Phu Hoa: 14 passengers escape from the canal!

In the late afternoon of June 19, 2025, a serious accident occurred on National Road 25 in Vietnam, specifically in Phu Sen Dong Village, Hoa Dinh Tay Municipality, Phu Hoa District. At 5:00 p.m., a 16-seater bus driven by Mr. Huynh Quoc Bao (born in 1990) collided with a motorcycle. The bus was carrying 13 passengers, while the motorcyclist, Mr. Vo Minh Hoan (born 1980), and his passenger, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tieu Ly (born 1998), both residents of Phu Hoa City, were also involved in the accident.

According to the initial account of the accident, the bus veered off the road and fell into a canal of the Dong Cam irrigation system. The consequences were dramatic: the motorcyclist, his passenger and the bus driver were injured. Thanks to the quick intervention of local residents, the bus driver and all passengers were rescued from the vehicle.

Rescue operation and emergency services

The rescue operation was coordinated by the Phu Yen Provincial Traffic Police and the Hoa Dinh Tay Municipal Police in Phu Hoa District. Special vehicles were mobilized to rescue the bus from the canal. Such accidents are not only significant in Vietnam, but also shed light on current road safety worldwide.

As an annual brochure published by the GDV shows, road traffic accidents are also a serious issue in Germany. The statistics, which have been collected since 1980, provide information about the development of accidents, divided into different categories such as in urban areas, out of urban areas, and on motorways. The figures for accidents with personal injuries, which play a central role in accident statistics, are particularly alarming.

A look at EU road safety

The traffic situation in Europe is also of great importance. According to a European Parliament report, the number of road deaths in the EU fell by 36 percent between 2010 and 2020. In 2019, the EU recorded a total of 22,800 road deaths, representing a notable reduction. The latest figures show that in many Member States the death toll is at a record low, while at the same time the pandemic-related changes in traffic volumes have influenced the number of accidents.

Young people between the ages of 18 and 24 are a special target group. Although they only make up 8 percent of the population, they accounted for 12 percent of traffic fatalities in 2018. It is noteworthy that the number of traffic deaths in this age group has fallen by 43 percent since 2010. These developments make it clear that despite the successes in road safety, great attention must still be paid to prevention and education.

In conclusion, the accident in Vietnam shows that road safety remains a global challenge that affects all countries and requires constant work. Whether through direct rescue operations or through comprehensive statistics – the goal is clear: safe driving for everyone.
