Cham is going green: Environmentally friendly district heating from waste from June 2023!
An exciting change in the heat supply will soon become a reality in Cham. With the start of construction work on June 30, 2023, the next stage of the district heating expansion begins, in which the city will be heated with environmentally friendly waste heat from the Renergia waste incineration plant in Pearls (LU). Loud Zug newspaper This heat supply will not only be sustainable, but also completely CO2-free.
The Ennetsee heating network will connect the communities of Rotkreuz, Bösch, Hünenberg See, Cham, Städtler Allmend, the outer Lorzenallmend in Zug and Steinhausen. The district heating pipeline will run from KVA Renergia along the A14 to Rotkreuz over a distance of 43 kilometers. An important section begins on Knonauerstrasse and runs to Zugerstrasse, where residents will continue to be informed via an online platform during the construction work.
The construction work: Attention to the residents
The construction work, which mainly takes place during the summer holidays, is intended to keep traffic and disruption to life for residents as low as possible. There is a clear plan: traffic will be rerouted so that everything runs smoothly. The aim is to complete the district heating pipeline by winter 2026, and the new water and gas pipes in Cham will also be installed at the same time. Various street crossings and house connection lines are necessary for residents, for which the existing water pipe on Johannisstrasse will be replaced, while a section of the gas pipe on Knonauerstrasse will be replaced.
According to the WWZ The waste heat that is generated around the clock from the KVA Renergia is generated in an environmentally friendly way. This change is a step in the right direction at a time when many communities are being asked to invest more in alternative energy sources. The initiative is particularly evident in the context of a WWF study that points out the high CO2 pollution of district heating supplies based on fossil energies daily news reported. In Germany in particular, there is a clear need to switch to more sustainable methods.
Insight into the future energy supply
If everything goes according to plan, when the Cham-Hünenberg bypass goes into operation in 2027, another district heating transport line will also be built in the center of Cham. This not only promises a permanent and environmentally friendly energy supply for residents, but also shows the community's commitment to a sustainable future.
Residents are warmly invited to find out about the construction projects and the associated progress as well as the traffic routes. The WWZ online platform will play a central role here and provides important information to keep everyone up to date, as in the Zug newspaper mentioned.
Overall, the expansion of district heating in Cham not only represents a big step towards the green future, but is also an important example of how municipalities can actively work to reduce CO2 emissions. There's definitely something going on!
