District Administrator Löffler welcomes 850 international students in Cham!
A noticeable international atmosphere runs through the Campus Cham technology, where District Administrator Franz Löffler welcomed 60 new international students on July 7, 2025. Over 850 students from 30 nations enrich the campus and deepen their knowledge in exciting areas such as artificial intelligence, addiction and robotics. "There is something here," says Löffler enthusiastically and emphasizes that around 30 % of international graduates plan to stay in the region. This is a positive development that not only promotes education, but also the economy.
Imagine that you have the opportunity not only to learn in an innovative environment, but also to get in touch with people from a wide variety of cultures. This enables the committed course instructor Melanie Wittmann together with lecturer Stefanie Dierlmeier, who actively work for integration and intercultural understanding. Many students, such as Selpa Nalam Kandathin from India, even have the plan to stay in the region after studying and contribute to the local community.
Current challenges and solutions
Despite the positive exchange, there are challenges. The living space problem in particular comes into play. Some students travel from cities like Nuremberg early to ensure that they can appear on time for their events. In order to counteract this dilemma, District Administrator Löffler has announced the creation of new student apartments that are urgently needed to meet the needs of the students.
The settlement of the Campus Cham technology in such a central location nearby and with the excellent study conditions, the region has moved to the center of Europe. The recently opened opening of the Czech Republic has given this development to more thrust. In addition, expansion measures for the technology transfer centers for digital production, additive manufacturing and intelligent robotics are planned. This makes Cham not only more attractive as an educational location, but also as an innovation center.
a new head at the top
The new head of the Campus technology, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Aumer brings a breath of fresh air. The 41-year-old comes from Rettenbach and has an agricultural business with eleven cows, which he sees as a balance to university. Aumer, who studied and did an electrical engineering, attaches great importance to practical cooperation with the economy and sees the future of the university in the innovation. His personal history and close connection to his homeland reflect his commitment to the region and its development.
As the developments in the Campus Cham technology show, the area of artificial intelligence also plays a leading role in modern university education. The DAAD recently presented interesting insights into the practical use of AI at universities. In the context of online seminars, best practices and challenges were discussed, which are important for students and teachers. The successful integration of AI into the curricula is a current topic that is also not losing importance to the Campus Cham technology. The students already use AI tools for various applications such as text, graphics or lecture performances and thus actively contribute to discussion.
The diverse possibilities that are available in Cham are not only a profit for students, but also for the entire region. With the upcoming developments and international orientation, the Campus Cham technology shows that it is on the right track and opens up many new perspectives.
