New buildings for flood victims: Hope for Dong Cham before the Tet festival!
In the spirit of solidarity and the rapid restoration of living conditions in the flood-affected regions of Vietnam, the extensive “Quang Trung Campaign” is currently underway. This initiative, launched by police forces and the Thượng Đức municipal government, aims to build and repair homes for flood victims. Loud Vietnam.vn The first successes are already visible after the Vu Gia River reached historic highs during the rainy season in late October 2025, causing significant damage to numerous villages, including Dong Cham.
The village of Dong Cham was particularly affected, where many houses and fields were at risk from the floods. Security guard Nguyen Dinh, who took an active part in the evacuation effort, experienced firsthand the evils of the disaster: upon his return, he found his house and belongings washed away. On January 9, 2026, thanks to the support of the police forces, he received a new home with modern furnishings and a generous 80 square meters of living space. From a historical perspective, however, the old house remains standing as a silent reminder of the devastating effects of the flood.
Joint efforts for the future
Mr Le Hong Linh, another villager, also recounts the dramatic events during the flood that left him and his family in panic. His house was partially destroyed, but thanks to the mobilization of up to 60 police and soldiers a day, working around the clock, Linh was able to repair 80 percent of his home. His family also received donations of school materials for the children.
Work is also being done at a higher political level to deal with the flood damage. On Monday, Vice Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung met with a government working group and the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee to review construction progress in the affected areas. VOVworld reported that the province has been ordered to mobilize all necessary forces to complete the construction of the new houses by mid-January so that residents can celebrate the upcoming Tet festival in their new homes.
Community in reconstruction
In total, more than 1,200 soldiers and police officers are being deployed in the province for reconstruction. The progress is considerable: 96 percent of the 674 newly built houses have already been completed. Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Viet expressed that the hilly region made it difficult to transport materials, which further challenged the implementation of the campaign. Despite the difficult conditions, villagers show great courage and determination to improve their living conditions and prepare for the upcoming Tet festival.
Despite the scars of the natural disaster, families like those in Dinh and Linh are already back to securing their livelihoods, while their children are happily going to school. The reconstruction in the region is being driven forward not only by the authorities, but also by the tireless efforts of the community. It remains to be hoped that the preparations will be completed in time so that all affected families can celebrate a happy and new year.
