Bayreuth celebrates: Winterdorf opens the Christmas market season!
What a celebration! The winter magic has officially opened in Bayreuth. On October 15, 2025, the popular “winter village” in the pedestrian zone was inaugurated, which further increased the anticipation of the Christmas season. Every year around 120,000 visitors flock to this festively decorated oasis, which is decorated with fairy lights and candles. NP Coburg reports that the winter village will be open daily until December 31, 2025 and offers a large selection of sweet and savory dishes, mulled wine, après-ski hits and an extensive children's program.
The events in the winter village are a very special highlight. Six wooden huts on around 480 square meters contain a variety of hot drinks, including Feuerzangenbowle and hot chocolate. A new vegan offering ensures there's something to suit every taste, and a specially designed pawn shop takes back the empty bottles and cups. Music and various events round off the offering, so you won't be bored during a visit.
Other markets and events
This year, Bayreuth is not only captivated by the winter village. The traditional Christmas market starts on November 24th, 2025 and has around 40 stalls in the city center. Here the Christ child himself will distribute gifts to the children, and an activity stage invites you to linger with performances by choirs, theater groups and storytellers. Northern Bavaria emphasizes that the opening hours of the Christmas market were very well attended last year and that no fewer visitors are expected this year.
An additional highlight are the Christmas markets in Bayreuth's Wilhelminenaue. A market takes place here on the first three weekends of Advent and features classic wooden stalls, concerts in a wintry atmosphere and delicious specialties such as crepes and raclette bread.

Not only the city's residents but also tourists from the surrounding area come to visit these numerous Christmas markets. Bayreuth has a lot to offer during this festive period. From the quaintly decorated stalls to the festive sounds in the air, the city is the perfect place to get into the pre-Christmas spirit. The harbor Christmas in Lindau, which starts on November 27th, as well as the Rothenburg Reiterlesmarkt and the Christkindlmarkt at Munich's Marienplatz are other recommended destinations for a heartwarming Christmas season.
