Warm Christmas Eve promotion: warm soup and gifts in Coburg!

On Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025, the Ratskeller Coburg a sign of charity and solidarity. Led by Helen Thumerer and Nima Khorsandi, the team offers a free warm meal to all passers-by. In frosty temperatures, a hearty potato soup was served. The campaign was aimed primarily at people who are currently having a difficult time.

From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., visitors could choose between a hearty soup with meat or the vegetarian option. This initiative, funded by tips and additional support from the team, has proven to be very successful. Small gifts are also waiting for the children who attended the event. “Especially on Christmas days, we want to look out for people who are hungry or can’t afford warm food,” explain the tenants.

A heart for those in need

The response in the first four weeks under new management was consistently positive. The passers-by reacted with surprise and emotion to the Ratskeller's gesture. Mayor Dominik Sauerteig and CSU city councilor Barbara Kammerscheid praised the campaign on social media, which underlines the importance of such a project in the community. It's a step towards putting Christmas thoughts into action - especially important in our fast-moving times.

While the Ratskeller team looked after the hungry guests, other forms of help were also pointed out in the city. There is an opportunity to help homeless people in the cold with the heat bus. Here, warm soups, tea or coffee are distributed to provide some comfort and warmth to people in need, like this Maltese report.

Experience the Christmas season together

The event in the Ratskeller is not only a gesture of hospitality, but also a sign that everyone is welcome. Whether young or old: “Anyone who is hungry or cannot afford hot food is welcome here without any questions or conditions,” said the organizers. This shows how easy it is to bring back a piece of humanity and experience the Christmas season together.

Christmas Eve in Coburg proved once again that it's not just about gifts and festivities, but also about togetherness and community cohesion. Such initiatives are particularly important in the cold season to show that humanity and charity are still very important.
