Art premiere in Delmenhorst: Prize winners show impressive works!
This opens the heart of DelmenhorstHouse of Coburgwill reopen its doors on June 20, 2025 after a three-week break. Gallery manager Matilda Felix and her team put a lot of effort into inventorying the collection during this time. The reopening will be celebrated with a special exhibition: the works of the award winnersDelmenhorst Art Prize, which was awarded for the first time last year. Weser courier reports that the winners will receive prize money of 5,000 euros and the opportunity to present their work in this renowned gallery.
The prize winners –Tomas Maglione,Vanessa Amoah OpokuandFinn Ribbeck– were chosen from a list of 15 nominated artists. This selection was made by two independent juries comprising art professionals and curators, including the director of the Kunstverein Düsseldorf, Kathrin Bentele, and art historian Gürsoy Doğtaş. This structure ensures that the award is awarded in a fair and transparent process, without a public call for tenders ( City of Delmenhorst ).
Three creative approaches
All three award winners bring a breath of fresh air into the gallery landscape. Tomás Maglione addresses public spaces and social phenomena in his works, while Vanessa Amoah Opoku deals with migrant experiences and concepts of home. Fynn Ribbeck, on the other hand, brings into play an exciting collage of historical archive material that reflects German history and the political present. Her cross-media works, especially in the area of video, offer visitors plenty of space for reflection and conversation.
The opening on June 20th at 7 p.m. will be a highlight of the art calendar. Mayor Petra Gerlach and curator Viktor Hömpler will be present, and a tour with the artists is planned following the opening. And best of all: Admission to the vernissage is free, which gives art lovers and the curious the opportunity to experience unknown talents up close and talk to them.
Delmenhorst Art Prize in context
TheDelmenhorst Art Prizenot only promotes young contemporary art, but is awarded every two years and is endowed with a total of 50,000 euros. In addition to the prize money, the remaining funding comes from supporting local foundations and companies. Private sponsors like Dr. Calin Pirvu and the Von der Heyde Cordes Foundation are crucial to ensuring this initiative is sustainable. The next awards ceremony will take place next year during a festive event where the winners will be honored. This not only revitalizes the art scene in Delmenhorst in the short term, but also promotes and supports it in the long term ( Art Prize Germany ).
