Dog Cookie missing: helpers are desperately looking in Hebertshausen!

The seven-year-old mixed breed Cookie, a mix of border collie and German shepherd, has been causing worried faces in Hebertshausen for almost two weeks. Monika Meßner-Losleben, his owner, is desperately looking for her beloved four-legged friend who ran away during a walk in the forest. The accident happened one morning around 10 a.m. when Cookie suddenly disappeared into the plant world, pursued by the loud barking of the huntsman, and presumably spotted something visible.

Cookie isn't from the area and might be wandering around scared. The search operation by the brave helpers, who were mobilized together with search dogs and even a drone pilot, has so far produced no trace of the escaped dog. Particularly tragic: the dog tracks ultimately led towards Mariabrunn, but were lost in the thick undergrowth. Meßner-Losleben remains optimistic and suspects that Cookie is staying in this area.

The search continues

“It is very important to report sightings of Cookie, but please do not catch him unless he comes to you on his own,” appeals Meßner-Losleben. Cookie wears a collar with a tag and is chipped, making identification easier in the event of a possible return. Its distinctive, bushy tail could help identify it more quickly.

Every year several thousand dogs escape in Germany. In fact, the organization TASSO, the largest European institution for the identification and registration of animals, reports that of 33,000 lost dogs in 2020, around 31,830 were successfully rehomed. According to TASSO, this shows how important a quickly organized search operation is.

Tips for searching

If you miss a dog, there are a few behaviors you should pay attention to. “Stay at the scene and inform a friend or family member,” advises TASSO. It is important to stay calm and not shout in panic so as not to further frighten the dog. The police can be called, especially if the dog is near busy roads.

A noteworthy tip is also to leave a personal item behind to make the dog's search easier. On this basis, it is even recommended to carry out an extensive star search by systematically searching the area for the four-legged friend.

Monika Meßner-Losleben stays in touch with the numerous supporters who are helping with the search. “Hope is always there and I firmly believe that Cookie will come back,” she says as the search continues tirelessly.

Especially in times like these, when both animal and humanity are at the forefront, it becomes clear once again how important community and solidarity are. Any clue could be crucial to getting Cookie back home.
