Training for fighting vegetation fires: Fire brigade ready for emergencies!
In Eichenau, the Fürstenfeldbruck district fire brigade association carried out important multiplier training on vegetation fire fighting last weekend. Sixty motivated participants were trained by experienced experts to pass on the newly acquired knowledge to their fire departments in the district. This initiative was launched due to the increasing number of vegetation fires in the region. Recent years have shown that extreme weather periods, such as the floods in June 2024 and the extreme drought in spring 2025, significantly increase the risk of fires Mercury reported.
Significant fires, such as those in Fußbergmoos and Rothschwaiger Forest in April 2025, have clearly shown that better preparation by fire departments is essential. Until now, operational tactics for fighting vegetation fires had played a subordinate role in fire brigade training. The training was therefore organized by the organization @Fire, which specializes in fighting vegetation fires and searching for buried victims.
Content and technologies of the training
During the training, the experts covered both theoretical basics and practical exercises. The focus was on the use of special tools, safety techniques and effective force approaches. It was also particularly important to train in laying hose lines and securing retreat routes, whereby the wind conditions were also carefully considered. At the end of the training, the participants were able to receive certificates from district fire inspector Hendrik Cornell and district fire chief Ric Unteutsch.
A highlight of the training was the use of the new civil and disaster fire engine, which was only financed by the federal government in mid-2025. This modern vehicle will be stationed in the new disaster control center in Mammendorf and will enable future training and operational support. The Jesenwang Volunteer Fire Department will provide and train the team for the vehicle.
Preparation for future challenges
The multipliers will prepare their fire departments over the winter to combat vegetation fires. In addition, a major disaster control exercise is scheduled for March 2026, which will challenge everyone involved.
