40 years of Sportfreunde Mettenhausen: A village celebrates its passion!

On November 12, 2025, the Mettenhausen local and sports club will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a festive event that is of great importance for the village community. The club was founded in 1985, when the sports field was inaugurated and the “Sportfreunde Mettenhausen” was founded. It was founded on December 23, 1984 with 57 committed members, under the leadership of Erwin Willeitner as the first chairman and Rudolf Reisinger Jr. as his deputy. At that time, the region was experiencing a boom in recreational football, which made the club an important part of village life. [pnp.de].

The sports field itself was ceremoniously inaugurated in 1986 and quickly became the central meeting point for many sports enthusiasts. The stick shooting division was founded in 1987 and the construction of the stick tracks began in the same year. The roof was officially inaugurated in 1996 and the hall in 1999. Unfortunately, football operations had become increasingly less important in the 2000s, and Türk Spor used the pitches until they closed.

The anniversary program

The festival program on November 30, 2025 promises to be a real treat for all members and visitors. It begins at 10 a.m. with a celebratory service in the Church of St. Mauritius. The greetings will then be held in the church at 10:45 a.m. Lunch follows at 12 p.m., followed by long-time member honors at 1:30 p.m. From 3:30 p.m. there will be coffee and cake, which marks the cozy end to the festival.

The founding of the local association in 2019 showed that there is strong cohesion in the community. In order to secure the future of the club, a merger between the home club and the Sportfreunde was decided. Since October 1, 2023, an identical board has been operating under Bernhard Willeitner as chairman and Regina Eder as deputy, with entry in the association register planned for 2025.

The club today

Although the stick shooting division still exists, the club is struggling with problems with young talent. The new board would like to address these challenges with a fresh approach and reinvigorate the club's activities. With the 40th anniversary, the association intends to maintain old traditions and provide new impulses in order to continue to make village life active and attractive.
