On Friday, July 11, 2025, police officers pulled a 61-year-old driver from the Donau-Ries district out of traffic. The check took place at 11:20 a.m. in Rennertshofen, where the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol. An alcohol test showed a value of 1.2 per mille, which, according to the Criminal Code (StGB), is considered to be absolutely unfit to drive. As a result, further travel was stopped and the driver had to undergo a blood sample at the Neuburg Clinic. His driver's license was regularly confiscated and he is being investigated for drunk driving. Brennessel reports that such violations not only endanger road safety, but can also have legal consequences.

But what is the current legal situation regarding drunk driving? If a driver has a blood alcohol content of 0.5 per mille or more, they are deemed to be in breach of the rules; a first offense can result in fines of 500 euros or more and a one-month driving ban.
