Since the beginning of April 2025, a seniors' lunch has been held every Thursday at 12 p.m., which was initiated by the Ebersberg Seniors' Advisory Board. The aim of this initiative is to combat the loneliness of many older people and to counteract poverty in old age.
The appreciation for this project is reflected in the lively participation. At the meeting point we spontaneously decide which local inn we should go to. Various innkeepers have come together to support this important social offer. For a slim nine euros, the seniors get a tasty lunch and a glass of tap water. And don’t worry – the portions are big enough, even if they are so-called “senior plates”.
A meeting place for more community
The offer is not only very popular with Ebersberg seniors. There are no strict ID checks, so seniors from other cities are also welcome to take part. Relatives can also be brought along, which further strengthens the community. The initial feedback shows that the lunch not only offers a meal, but also promotes a valuable exchange between the participants.
Speaking of exchange: The senior citizens' advisory board has found that the official office hours are hardly used. This is where lunch begins and helps to establish contact with the seniors and get to know their concerns better. With so much warmth, you'll quickly become a regular guest!
Innovations for seniors
Another highlight is the first traffic light for seniors in Germany, which was installed in Ebersberg. It is intended to help extend the duration of the green phase and thus promote the mobility of older people.
