End of an era: La Piazzetta in Poing closes after 20 years!
An era is coming to an end in Poing. After almost 20 years, Dina Policastro is giving up her beloved Italian restaurant La Piazzetta. On Saturday, September 20th, the restaurant will open its doors for the last time, and that's worth celebrating! During the Long Night of Music, guests can enjoy live music from Jasmin Bayer & Band from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. From 10 p.m., the neighboring market square turns into an open-air disco where the partying continues until midnight. This last event is not only a farewell, but also a thank you to the loyal regular guests and the dedicated team of employees with whom Dina was able to share many wonderful memories.
The Italian restaurant La Piazzetta was opened in 2006 by Dina Policastro. The native of Calabria has found a second home in Poing and over the years has offered her guests not only excellent food and fine wines, but also Italian charm. The restaurant was always a meeting place where people not only came to eat, but also to relax and feel good. Tijana, a long-time service employee, talks about the unforgettable moments she was able to experience with the guests. “We had many wonderful parties and celebrations here, every visit was special!”
A farewell with sadness and new plans
“After 30 years in the restaurant business, I now want to think about myself,” explains Dina Policastro. It wasn't an easy decision to close La Piazzetta, but she sees it as the right time to explore new avenues. The farewell is somewhat tempered by the successor, an Indian restaurant run by the owners of Swagat in Munich. The new restaurant is expected to open its doors in mid to late October 2025 and expand the variety of dishes in Poing.
Incidentally, gastronomy is not only an important part of culture, but also a significant economic factor in Germany. Over 60 million Germans eat out occasionally, and food-focused gastronomy is in high demand. There are a total of around 63,400 restaurants in this country and the demand for culinary experiences remains unbroken. In this context, La Piazzetta plays a special role, bringing many people together through its excellent Italian cuisine.
A culinary heritage
Goodbyes are never easy, especially after so many years. Dina looks back with pride on her time in the restaurant industry. “I would like to thank everyone who has been part of this journey,” she says emotionally. The guests were not just a source of income, they were part of a large family. And while the diversity of dining options in Germany, such as cafés, bars, snack bars and more, the departure of La Piazzetta remains an important moment for the Poinger community.
A good group of restaurateurs says goodbye, but the legacy lives on. All that remains to say is: Ciao, La Piazzetta – and welcome, Indian restaurant!
