Falk Skeide wants to make Zorneding a pioneer in sustainability as mayor!

A race for the mayor's office is imminent in the picturesque community of Zorneding. Falk Skeide, known as the “Plastic Waste Pirate”, announces his candidacy as an independent candidate for the 2026 local elections. This will be an exciting duel as incumbent Piet Mayr from the CSU recently announced his re-candidacy. Skeide is no stranger to the region; His actions against plastic waste have secured him a permanent place in the hearts of the people of Zorneding. He not only brings fresh ideas, but also a healthy dose of enthusiasm and a clear vision for the future of the community.

But what really drives Falk Skeide? The 52-year-old has not only made a name for himself as an expert and coach, but is also a co-initiator of the Zornedinger Unverpackt store. His involvement began when he went on motorcycle tours through Europe to draw attention to the urgent problem of plastic waste. This passion is also reflected in his political ambitions. For him, “transparency, proximity to citizens and sustainable development” are the cornerstones of a strong community that he would like to implement. Regular citizens' consultation hours and a new children's and youth parliament are just some of his ideas to involve citizens more closely in the decision-making processes.

Our goals for Zorneding

Skeide has defined clear goals: He wants to reactivate the local youth center and create offers that promote cooperation between young and old. In particular, he plans to improve the transport infrastructure, create safe routes to school and guarantee swimming lessons in schools. “Education must progress, and this also includes a sustainable school location,” he emphasizes. In addition, he is planning citizen dialogues on various topics, which will take place on July 2nd in the Unverpacktladen on Anzinger Straße.

The unpackaged shop, which was launched by the Zornedinger plastic-free initiative, is a central element in Skeide's commitment. Together with other founding members such as Daniela Delges and Martin Vogl, a cooperative has already been founded whose aim is to enable the people of Zorneding to purchase unpackaged food at a reduced price. The shop at Münchner Straße 15a not only offers regional products, but also workshops and a lunch menu to promote a more conscious approach to food. “It's more than just a business, it's a movement,” says Skeide, pleased about the positive response to the concept.

Sustainability in the community

The topics that Skeide wants to tackle also have an overarching dimension. In the context of the nationwide debates about sustainability and local government financing, it is clear that Zorneding can play a pioneering role in this time of transformation. A reform of the debt brake and more freedom with taxes and duties are essential to support communities with the necessary investments in sustainable infrastructure and educational institutions. Skeide will advocate for these concerns and strengthen the voice of the Zornedingers in the overarching discourse. After all, the municipalities decide on the implementation of two thirds of the global sustainability goals, as the Sustainability Council emphasizes.

It remains exciting to see whether Falk Skeide can win the voters' favor with his innovative approach and the urgent issues of sustainability. The coming months will show how the competition for the mayor's office in Zorneding will develop.

Those interested will have the opportunity to find out more about the cooperative and its goals at Zornedinger Neuwirt on July 23rd. Skeide's vision for Zorneding could be the first step towards environmentally conscious and communal coexistence. We will keep readers updated on current developments.
