Carnival start in Ebersberg: fools conquer the city with magic!

The long-awaited carnival season begins in Ebersberger Land on November 11th, 2025 at 11:11 a.m. There is great joy because the fools will take over the reins for the next few months and usher in a time full of celebration and creativity. The Ebersberg Carnival Society is celebrating this year under the motto “Ebersberg Magic Worlds”. In the spirit of fantasy, President Sissi Heimgartner opens the festivities in front of the town hall and enchants Mayor Ulrich Proske with her words, who is visibly happy about the colorful celebrations. Mercury reports that the event features numerous imaginative costumes - from witches and druids to the well-known characters from “Alice in Wonderland”.

But it's not just in Ebersberg that the celebrations take place. There is also reason to be happy in Grafing. Here the Middle Ages are brought to life with damsels and knights, led by Felix Pollinger, who takes guests into a sunken world. The atmosphere is characterized by a mixture of nostalgia and high excitement, which delights visitors.

The children's triumvirate and traditional handovers

Particularly pleasing is the children's triumvirate, which this year consists of Princess Klara I, Prince Adrian I and the court jester Greta the Feschen. This trio brings a breath of fresh air and a lot of joy to the celebrations. With their cheerful performances, they ensure that the children do not miss out and that the tradition stays alive. Carnival is not just a celebration for adults, but also an experience for the little ones.

In Markt Schwaben, however, a very special tradition is celebrated: the handover of keys. Mayor Valentina Dahms hands over the town hall key to Babsi Krechel, chairwoman of the Falkonia Association. A symbolic act that calls the fools to power and allows them to rule until Ash Wednesday.

A carnival full of history and customs

Carnival, also known as Fasching or Fastnacht in this country, has a long history. It traditionally begins on November 11th and initiates preparations for the 40-day Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday. These celebrations are characterized by parades, masks and various customs. In many regions of Germany, such as the Rhineland, carnival is a special event that brings people together. Wikipedia explains, that the oldest literary mention of “Fastnacht” dates back to 1206 and encompasses many different regional traditions and customs.

Overall, Carnival is seen as a time when people can express themselves freely and freely. Music, fun and dressing up in imaginative costumes help ensure that the fools do a good business and everyone enjoys the joyful traditions. So we can only hope that the coming weeks will be as colorful and exuberant as the start promises!
