New job portal karrierePS” aims to combat the shortage of skilled workers in the Ebersberg district!

Today, September 2, 2025, a new chapter will open in the social landscape of the Ebersberg district. With the introduction of the job portal “karrierePS”, Neighborhood Aid Network GmbH is taking a stand against the increasing shortage of skilled workers in social work. This initiative aims to support social institutions in recruiting staff and volunteers and is particularly intended for small and medium-sized organizations that are often lost in large job portals. The experience that the organization has gained over 50 years is based on neighborhood assistance in the communities of Vaterstetten, Zorneding and Grasbrunn, and this is reflected in the practical orientation of the portal.

The job portal offers a user-friendly interface and enables free advertising for non-profit organizations. “CareerPS” should not only serve as a platform for job offers, but also act as a hub for volunteer opportunities. This is a response to the pressing challenges of the shortage of skilled workers, which is a serious problem both in Germany and internationally. The reasons for this are complex. Demographic change means that the population is getting older and the need for social support is increasing. At the same time, working conditions are often unpleasant and pay is inadequate, which scares off many potential skilled workers. As a result, existing employees are overloaded and the quality of care deteriorates, as research shows.

Shortage of skilled workers in social work

Current studies make it clear that the skills gap in social work is alarmingly large. According to a study by the German Economic Institute, there were an average of over 537,000 vacancies, with social work being particularly hard hit. Around 26,500 vacancies in social education cannot be filled because there is a lack of suitably qualified unemployed people. These findings suggest that the shortage of skilled workers in many social professions has been increasing continuously for years, and the situation has worsened further following the corona pandemic reports the DVSG.

The challenges in finding suitable skilled workers are manifold. On the one hand, there are not enough people with the necessary social and communication skills. On the other hand, salaries in the social sector are often perceived as inadequate compared to other professions. Institutions in rural areas in particular complain about a dramatic lack of applicants. The urgent need for personnel leads to an enormous overload of the existing workforce, which means that burnout cases are increasing and the need for support staff is becoming more and more noticeable, even in higher education.

On to new solutions

Numerous measures are necessary to meet these challenges. This includes improving working conditions and pay so that jobs in the social sector become more attractive. Collaborations between educational institutions and employers are also seen as key to attracting new skilled workers. Social work must not only be valued, but also be more firmly anchored in society as a professional field.

In view of this situation, “karrierePS” is seen as an innovative approach to combating the shortage of skilled workers. The platform represents a cost-effective and easily accessible way to support social institutions in the Ebersberg district so that they can continue to provide the necessary help that our society so urgently needs in the future. A safe way to meet the challenges of social work is being taken today with this new portal reports B304.
