Walter Liebold: Role model of volunteerism in Upper Bavarian sport!

In Upper Bavaria, tradition is very important, not least when it comes to honoring committed athletes and officials. The annual volunteer award ceremony took place in the Glentleiten open-air museum near Großweil, where Walter Liebold from TC Blau-Weiß Beilngries was honored as an outstanding example of over 60 years of commitment to sport. Loud Danube Courier Liebold has been active in the club since September 1960 and has distinguished himself through various roles as board member, trainer, groundskeeper and head referee. His achievements in the club speak volumes: in addition to maintaining the course and organizing training sessions, he also successfully took part in numerous competitions and won several club championship titles.

Walter Liebold, who is also an honorary member of the club and was awarded the BTV Badge of Honor in Bronze and the BLSV Badge of Honor “Gold with Brilliant and Wreath”, is considered a shining example of cross-generational commitment to sport. He was deputy chairman from 1970 to 2019 and trainer for the young talent from 1975 to 2014. Such commitment is highly valued by the BLSV, which collects suggestions from 22 sports circles to honor the best volunteers.

Sports honor 2023

But it wasn’t just volunteers who were honored. At the sports awards ceremony, which took place on October 6, 2023 in the “Alm am See” in Karlsfeld, young athletes from Upper Bavaria received well-deserved recognition for their outstanding achievements. Again BLSV reported, in addition to the honored athletes, there were also numerous guests of honor present at the celebration, including prominent personalities such as Jörg Ammon, President of the BLSV, and Dominik Klein, handball world champion. This shows the great importance that competitive sport has for society.

A total of 22 athletes received awards, including in disciplines such as fencing, weightlifting and athletics. Each of the talents received a certificate of honor and a sports voucher worth 250 euros. The event ended after a colorful program with lively conversations and good food, which underlined the family atmosphere.

Honors at the state level

Every year the Bavarian Prime Minister highlights the importance of sport at a major honorary event. The gala in the BMW Welt in Munich attracts numerous prominent guests from various areas and highlights the successful work in Bavarian sports. These honors - both at regional and statewide level - impressively show how important voluntary commitment and sporting achievements are in Upper Bavaria. They bring people together, promote exchange and strengthen the sense of community in sport.
