Pressure is growing on Erding Gladiators: Coach Quinlan demands performance!
In Erding the pressure on the Gladiators has increased noticeably. After four defeats in the current league season, the memories of the last games, including an unfortunate 3:5 against SC Riessersee, are still fresh. In this game, the Gladiators conceded four goals in the last minute and a half, which further increased the disappointment of coach Dominik Quinlan. “We were close to taking points,” Quinlan explained, praising the team's return to the game while criticizing the high number of goals and the errors they caused. The players expressed concern despite the exhausting games and Quinlan acknowledged the fatigue that contributed to these poor performances.
Quinlan was particularly concerned about the performance of the front row as they conceded the first four goals. Nevertheless, the new head coach is optimistic about the future. “We are competitive and will still collect points,” emphasized Quinlan resolutely. The next chance to prove this will be next Friday in the game against EV Füssen, who also only have one point to their name so far. A bit of rivalry and the will to win could get the team back on track.
The change of coach and new impulses
36-year-old Dominik Quinlan, who comes from Rosenheim, is taking over the team this season and brings his extensive ice hockey experience with him. Previously, he was active at EHC Klostersee, among others, where he started as “Rookie of the Year” and ultimately led his first team to the top league as a coach. “I’m looking forward to the challenge with the Erding Gladiators and will push ahead with preparations for the season,” he said with anticipation about his new commitment. His predecessor, Thomas Daffner, is now concentrating primarily on the U20 team.
Quinlan's commitment could be just the right impulse to get the Gladiators out of their current misery. David Whitney, the club's sporting director, highlights Quinlan's motivation and hockey expertise, which could be crucial to the team's further development.
Oberliga and its challenges
The Oberliga, in which the Gladiators play, is considered the third highest ice hockey league in Germany and is fiercely competitive. What is particularly noteworthy is that this league has undergone many changes in its history, such as the move into different groups and the different championship titles that have been awarded in recent years. Ice hockey statistics show that for several years the Oberliga has also represented a platform for clubs that want to work their way up to the higher leagues, for example the DEL2.
Given the results so far, it will be essential for the Gladiators to quickly consolidate and focus on the upcoming games in order to ultimately achieve the goal of “collecting points”. The challenge lies in the coming matches, with the game against EV Füssen being a key game. Hopes for a turnaround in the season remain high not only among the players, but also among the fans.
