Greens in Erding forgo mayor candidate: Smart step for city council!
The Greens in Erding have made a groundbreaking decision: the party will not nominate its own mayoral candidate for the upcoming local elections in 2026. This strategy aims to focus resources on building a strong council slate. Historically, the Greens' last mayoral candidate was Günter Kuhn, 18 years ago, who only received 4% of the vote and came in fifth place behind Max Gotz from the CSU, who achieved 48%, and Rainer Mehringer (UWE, 16%). Merkur reports that ...
The decision not to compete is seen as a wise waiver. The Greens' goal is to expand or at least maintain the six seats they currently have on the city council. The party is relying on a strong list of competent people, including personalities such as Konrad Thees, Lisa Schießer, Gerhard Ippisch, Herbert Maier and Helga Stieglmeier, who will be actively involved in the election campaign. However, this strategy could lead to less media exposure, which may seem unambitious to some.
Campaign strategies and proximity to citizens
The Greens plan to use a variety of methods to maintain contact with citizens. Information stands, home visits and social media activities will be used to communicate directly with the people in Erding. Herbert Maier noted that his telephone consultation hours have been significantly less busy since 2020, a sign that citizens want even more involvement and information. You can find out more about their activities on the Grüne Erding website.
With regard to the upcoming local elections in Bavaria in 2026, we are taking a proactive stance. Preparations for drawing up the lists will begin in the fall, with external candidates without membership also being sought. In order to promote equality, a women's quota will be introduced. The proportion of women in Green mandates in Bavarian local councils is currently an impressive 50%, while overall in Bavarian local councils it is 22%. Green Lower Franconia addresses electoral procedures and equality.
Focus on future-oriented topics
In this election period, the Greens are focusing on essential issues that are important to the citizens of Erding. These include, among other things, strong cooperation, sustainable budget policy, diversity in housing and sustainable economic considerations. There are also approaches to improving the local energy supply and strategies for reliable mobility. The Greens agree that education, health and a liveable environment are central pillars of their political agenda.
