Young Erdingers demand more space for sport and art in Erding!

Local democracy is gaining momentum in Erding! On October 27, 2025, the first young citizens' meeting took place in the mesa of the Lodererhalle. Around 30 young Erdingers met to get actively involved in shaping their city. In addition to interesting information, there was also pizza and hot dogs - a successful mix of exchange and enjoyment that motivated those present. Mercury reports that Dominik Drummer, a 19-year-old participant, asked the question about the S-Bahn connection to Munich right at the beginning.

Mayor Max Gotz explained to those present that the slow expansion of the railway line was primarily due to property ownership issues and failures on the part of Deutsche Bahn. Despite the 35 million euros already invested in the ring closure, little has happened.

Stolen bicycles and desolate stands

A student took the opportunity to point out the problem with stolen bicycles at the train station. He urgently called for better parking spaces for bicycles. Gotz promised to have the public order office stop by the train station more often and to look for safer parking options.

Another topic was the dilapidated stands at the stadium, which were refused to be repaired. Instead, Gotz provided information about the plans for a new fire station. This decision was met with incomprehension by some participants.

Places for sports and art

The sporting framework of the meeting was presented by Agelos Paraschos, who wanted more table tennis tables at the Kronthaler Weiher. Gotz was optimistic and promised to put on at least one more record by the next summer season. However, the request for an ice rink at Schrannenplatz was rejected - the high energy consumption was the deciding factor.

Anja Baumann, head of the Altenerding youth club, spoke on behalf of the skateboarders and asked for the skateboard area to be expanded and suitable areas for graffiti. Here too, Gotz was open to the suggestions and promised to look for suitable facades.

The youth's creative streak couldn't be neglected: Leonie Ewert and Sofia Grünberg expressed their desire for a room for art, equipped with acrylic paints and easels. Gotz is considering setting up this space in the museum's attic.

The backbone of local democracy

The young citizens' meeting is part of a broader commitment in the city of Erding, which is supplemented by regular citizens' meetings. These meetings are a crucial part of local democracy, as the city of Erding describes in more detail here. Special meetings for seniors are also offered to ensure that all citizens have the opportunity to participate.

The young people took home lots of good ideas. Darian Wichitill and Ericleiher emphasized the need for more accommodation options for young people in the city center. Such suggestions are valuable because they contribute to the lively design of the city and show how important citizen participation is Civil society emphasized.

Overall, those present were consistently convinced that their voices would be heard. These events lay a solid foundation for the future of municipal decisions and raise awareness of the importance of active participation.
