Mysterious robbery in Erlangen: Masked perpetrator on the run!

The criminal case involving a 21-year-old, who has already appeared several times, is once again occupying the judiciary. The young man is on trial after robbing a gas station in Erlangen in 2022. The incident caused a stir at the time and, ironically, the defendant is still on probation at the time of the current trial. However, this did not mean that the court granted him probation again - he did not receive this in the current proceedings, as nn.de reports.

Now the situation for the Erlangen police is tense: On October 15, 2025, there was a raid on a textile store with a lottery acceptance point in the city. The masked perpetrator, armed with a firearm, appeared around 5:15 p.m., demanded cash from the cashier and fled with an unknown amount. Fortunately, the employee and another colleague were uninjured. However, the immediate search by the Erlangen-Stadt police station was unsuccessful and the criminal police took over the investigation, as the Bavarian Police reported.

Current crime situation in Germany

Such incidents highlight the current development of crime in Germany. According to the police crime statistics from the Federal Criminal Police Office, there was a decrease in crimes of 1.7% to around 5.84 million in 2024. This is mainly due to a decrease in cannabis crimes after partial legalization. But at the same time there is something wrong: the number of crimes that affect the population's sense of security is increasing.

The most common crimes in 2024 were thefts and frauds, while crimes against life represent a very low number at only 0.1% of cases. It is also notable that the clearance rate has fallen slightly - it is now 58%. The probability of becoming a victim of crime is particularly higher in city states such as Berlin, Bremen or Hamburg, as Statista summarizes.

Overall, the statistics show not only declines in certain areas, but also increasing problems in the public perception of security. Young people in particular seem to be getting involved in crime more often, which is making society think. With the number of non-German suspects increasing to 41.8% and a 1.5% increase in court convictions in 2023, the issues of crime and security continue to be deeply relevant for many citizens.
