Jörg Markert resigns from ATSV Erlangen - new professional coach is coming!
A new wind is blowing at ATSV Erlangen! On December 4, 2025 it will be announced that Jörg Markert will resign early from his position as coach. Originally, a farewell was not planned until the end of the season in summer 2026, but now the withdrawal will take place before Christmas, which creates space for fresh input. Markert will continue to look after the first team until then and will also remain with the club in an advisory capacity. However, the search for a successor has already been completed.
From January 1, 2026, Sandro Cescutti will take over the position of sporting director, following in Markert's footsteps. Cescutti, a native of Erlangen, brings a lot of experience, especially from Bavarian amateur football. In his active career he played for SpVgg Ansbach and TSG Hoffenheim, where he played under current national coach Hansi Flick. His last stop was VfR Aalen. The ATSV has high hopes for Cescutti to make the transition as smooth as possible.
New structures in the club
Agron Sejdiu, known for his role as a youth leader, will take over as interim department head, supported by Reinhard Staab, who will act as deputy department head. This internal restructuring is an important step for the ATSV so that responsibility is clearly distributed and planning for the remainder of the 2025/26 season and the upcoming 2026/27 season has the highest priority.
ATSV Erlangen has the opportunity to learn from Markert's experiences and set the course for a successful future. The club would like to thank Markert for his many years of service and the progress he has made during his time.
In the context of amateur football
These changes also come against the background of Master plan 2024, which aims to improve the quality of clubs in German amateur football and strengthen the structures. This plan is being prepared by the Amateur Football Steering Group under the leadership of Peter Frymuth and focuses on goals such as recruiting and developing players and improving the sports infrastructure. The aim is to maintain and strengthen the nationwide network of football clubs and clubs.
With wise personnel selection and structured measures, ATSV Erlangen wants to exist and be successful not only in the short term, but also in the long term. It remains to be seen how the new leadership will perform in practice and what successes they can celebrate in the coming season.
