Important meetings in Erlangen: Fire department, sports and summer holidays in focus!

Exciting times lie ahead in Erlangen! On Wednesday, July 16th, there will be two meetings in the town hall. At 4:15 p.m. the council chamber on the first floor becomes the stage for the HFPA meeting. The range of topics ranges from a personnel report from 2024 to the annual financial statements to room usage fees in the Kubic cultural and educational campus. The Frauenaurach local council will take place that same evening at 7:30 p.m. in the community center at Gaisbühlstrasse 4. Everything here revolves around the current status of the motorway expansion, with open questions from previous citizens' meetings also being discussed.

On Thursday, July 17th, at the Gasthaus zum Schloß in Tennenlohe from 7:30 p.m., the conversion and renovation of the crèche and the kindergarten “Die Arche” will be discussed. Other topics include energy advice and preparation for the church fair in August.

Special Olympics Bavaria in Erlangen

A very special event is expected in Erlangen next week: the big sports festival of the Special Olympics Bavaria begins on Monday. A total of seven soccer players from Bolzano will take part and will be looked after by coach Alfred Hermeter. This event is the result of a successful partnership with Lebenshilfe Erlangen and Lebenshilfe Südtirol, who have already pulled together in previous meetings and exchanges. You can find out more about the event on the Special Olympics website: here.

The Special Olympics are not only a sporting challenge, but also an important step towards integration and inclusion. Volunteering plays a central role here, especially in areas such as health and exercise. Many sports associations are calling for sport to be given greater consideration in urban development - after all, sport can be a stabilizing factor for social cohesion, as the experts from VHW emphasize.

Urban development and sports infrastructure

However, there are challenges in Erlangen that need to be overcome. Competition for space and often tight budgets make it difficult to create and maintain sports spaces. A movement-friendly design of squares, streets and parks is therefore particularly important in order to promote the use of outdoor areas by athletes. In many cities with stagnating or shrinking populations there is free space, but there is often a lack of members in sports clubs and the financial means to maintain or even expand the necessary infrastructure. The involvement of clubs and associations in urban development could play a key role here.

Summer holiday program for kids

For the younger people of Erlangen, there will be a colorful summer holiday program from July 19th. Registrations are possible from 10:00 a.m. The program offers a lot of variety: from theater performances and sporting activities to creative workshops and day trips. Special treat: Participants with an ErlangenPass can receive a 50% discount. For more information about the holiday program, check out the city's website: here.

From July 21st, drivers in Erlangen will have to prepare for some diversions, as the Erlangen-West state road will be closed until August 1st. The reason is adaptation work to the new geometry of the connection point. The U7 will be diverted in the direction of Heßdorf, the U19 in the direction of Dechsendorf/Erlangen and the U6 will also be diverted from Heßdorf in the direction of Dechsendorf/Erlangen.
