Summer reader photos: Forchheim shines in bright colors!

Day after day, Franconian Switzerland shows off its most beautiful side, and the readers from Forchheim have their finger on the pulse of nature. On July 3, 2025, the news platform NN published an enchanting collection of summer reader photos from the city and district of Forchheim. A total of 14 impressive photos that capture the diversity and beauty of the region were presented. If you would also like to contribute your snapshots, you can do so by August 15th redaktion-forchheim@vnp.de Send and become part of this living documentation.

There are many treasures among the photos submitted: A close-up of a carpenter bee by Tanya Lasrado-Muehlhaeusser enchants with its attention to detail, while a tree frog in a water column by Gerti Fridrich reflects the lightness of summer. Axel Degler's photo contributions, including a dynamic sunset with a storm front over fields near Lilling and a shy deer in a grain field, also immediately catch the eye. So the heart of the region flies with the spring and summer colors like a fisherman on the water!

Forchheim: A gateway to nature

The pictures not only show personal moments, but they are also a testimony to the beauty of the city of Forchheim, which is known as the “entrance gate to Franconian Switzerland”. With more than 32,000 inhabitants, Forchheim is the most populous municipality in the district of the same name and has established itself as a popular destination for tourists. The city is conveniently located on the Nuremberg–Bamberg railway line and is part of the European metropolitan region of Nuremberg. This makes it easy to reach and invites you to discover the numerous historical and cultural treasures.

Particularly noteworthy is the well-preserved cityscape, which shines with the impressive imperial palace, the archeology museum and the romantic town hall square. This reflects history that goes back to the Franconian monarchy, when Charles Martel controlled the fate of this region.

Creativity and competition in the region

In parallel to the reader photos, an exciting photo competition is currently taking place in the region, which was launched to mark the anniversary of “Die Burgenstrasse”. On the occasion of 70 years of Castle Road, citizens were asked to submit their best pictures of the historic stops along the route. Around 300 motifs adorned the participation and the jury chose 90 of them as worthy of a prize. The awards are still pending, but there is great curiosity about the results. Tanja Krausser from Gößweinstein placed her photos “Neideck awakens” and “Gößweinstein Castle” among the best photos.

The Castle Road stretches over 780 kilometers and is not only a journey through history, but also a visual tour through the breathtaking landscapes of Franconian Switzerland. The route leads through varied areas decorated with impressive historical walls.

With such lively recordings and creative exchanges in Forchheim, the region becomes a place worth experiencing not only for the locals but also for visitors. Summer has people's artistic streak in full swing, and the camera becomes the garden gnome's tool to make the world a little more colorful!
