Motorcyclist (19) seriously injured in turning accident – witnesses wanted!

On Friday, August 10th, 2025, a serious accident occurred between a 19-year-old motorcyclist and a car on the St2053 between Neufahrn and Mintraching. How Mercury Reportedly, despite the confusing traffic situation, the young biker overtook the vehicle that was preparing to turn left. This ill-advised maneuver had fatal consequences: the motorcyclist sustained serious leg injuries and was immediately taken to hospital, while the occupants of the car sustained minor injuries. The Neufahrn police have started investigating the accident and are calling on witnesses to call (08165)95100.

But what can be learned from such incidents? It is clear that motorcyclists carry a much higher risk on the road than car drivers because they have to make do without crumple zones and seat belts. According to an analysis by the ADAC Motorcycles are four times more likely to be involved in an accident. Also alarming is the fact that the accident rate among motorcyclists is seven times higher than among car drivers. In 2021, around 20% of road deaths and serious injuries were motorcyclists, which once again underlines the urgency of safety measures.

Causes of accidents and prevention

A look at the accident statistics shows that almost one in four traffic accidents outside of urban areas involves motorcyclists, and over a third of these accidents are solo accidents. Driving errors and inappropriate speeds in particular are common causes. For example, in 2024 reported North Hesse Journal of 4,115 motorcycle accidents in Baden-Württemberg, in which 63 motorcyclists lost their lives. Inexperience and lack of safety training often lead to tragic consequences.

The analysis also shows that technical safety features such as ABS and traction control are not always present, which further increases the risk of injury. In addition, only 25% of motorcyclists wear full protective clothing. The ADAC therefore strongly recommends that motorcyclists regularly take part in driving safety training and ensure that they practice defensive driving.

We all need to ask ourselves the question: What can we do to increase safety on the roads? Simple technical measures, such as cutting back vegetation and removing obstacles, could make a positive contribution. The goal of Vision Zero, i.e. no more traffic deaths, is ambitious, but requires the collective commitment of all road users.
