New toilets and information: Modernization at the Lusen National Park Center begins!
From Saturday, November 1st, visitors to the Lusen National Park Center can look forward to a modern toilet in the newly renovated parking lot building. This measure comes after the renovation, which began in March 2023, and promises improved comfort for the around 350,000 annual visitors to the popular excursion destination, which is best known for its impressive outdoor animal area. As the PNP reported, the new toilets are open daily from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offer not only a men's and women's toilet with changing facilities for small children, but also a barrier-free toilet with an emergency call and EURO locking system.
The renovation project not only extends to the toilet facilities, but also includes the construction of an information point, which is scheduled to go into operation at the end of December. This innovation will bring the parking service, which was previously housed in a less optimally located building, to a more central location and will make planning much easier for visitors. The renovation cost a total of around 750,000 euros and, in addition to the sanitary modernization, also included the installation of a heat pump, new windows and doors and a ventilation system.
Environmentally friendly technologies and services
Another plus point of the new parking lot building is the installation of a forest water fountain from which guests can draw drinking water free of charge during the ice-free period. The energy-efficient measures, such as additional insulation and the photovoltaic system, are also steps in the right direction. In addition, a Bavaria WiFi hotspot has been set up for free internet and two charging stations for electric vehicles are available, which takes into account the needs of modern visitors.

When there is a heavy flow of visitors, the forest guides will be on site to provide information about the national park and its protected area. These measures are part of a comprehensive plan to improve visitor conditions that the National Park Administration is implementing in collaboration with local partners. The Samerberger News report that despite the extensive construction work, no restrictions are expected for visitors, as a temporary toilet facility in containers will be provided during the renovation.
Overall, the project shows that the Lusen National Park is not only a place for relaxation and nature experience, but also sets standards in terms of environmental awareness and visitor friendliness. The redesigned parking lot building not only meets the practical needs of guests, but also contributes to a contemporary visitor experience. A real win for all nature lovers!
