Rescue after car racing: Fire brigade practices in Freyung for an emergency!

Freyung, Deutschland - On July 8, 2025, an impressive annual joint exercise of the fire brigades took place in Freyung, in which the focus was on technical assistance (THL). Under the motto "Reality meets on exercise", a demanding scenario was re-enacted: Two vehicles were collided in an illegal car race in the former "Munich camp" of the Bundeswehr. One of the cars got on the roof while the other was in the side and several people were trapped. Such exercises are crucial to prepare the emergency services for the emergency, as also reports PNP ....

In order to coordinate the emergency services as best as possible, the Freyung train driver set a provision room outside the site. The first firefighters from Freyung and Philippsreut were quickly brought to the scene of the accident with hydraulic rescue equipment. The use scenario was rounded off by the use of detection dogs, which are also known as indispensable support in the context of the DHL. In order to increase efficiency, a one-way regulation was implemented that optimized the rescue and care measures.

technical assistance in the focus

Technical assistance includes a variety of missions that are not just about extinguishing agents or medical help. The fire brigade and technical relief organization (THW) play an important role. The operations range from the removal of accidents to the provision of electrical energy in crisis situations. In this context, the challenge was to secure the accident -related vehicles before the technical rescue. Special supports were of central importance to ensure safe work of the emergency services, as described on Wikipedia.

In order to improve the technical skills of the firefighters, real training and exercises are essential. The knowledge of securing, lifting and moving loads is indispensable, especially in large damage situations. The use of hydraulic devices has improved the rescue technology enormously in recent years. It is all the more important to carry out such exercises regularly in order to be prepared for all eventualities, as indicated in the [Fire Brigade Magazine] (https://www.feuerwehrmagazin.de/wissen/tipps-und-wissen-der-technische-hilfe- 57082).

During the exercise, the emergency services were coordinated when the patient rescue of the section head and district fire brigade doctor Peter Gahbauer. This was done in close coordination with the emergency services. Another highlight was the discovery of an abandoned vehicle in the ditch, of which the emergency services assumed that three injured people were suspected there. The Kreuzberg fire brigade then took over the securing of the vehicle.

In addition, a season of the Bavarian Forest Rescue dog squadron was alerted to look for missing people. Thanks to the quick and precise work, the dogs were quickly able to find a person in a bunker at risk of collapse. The THW Passau, which secured the bunker, was brought in to remove a large stone block that blocked the exit. In the end, the exercise was a complete success: 105 emergency services from the fire brigade, BRK, THW and the rescue dog squadron were involved, a total of 22 vehicles were deployed and seven "injuries" - represented by members of the youth fire brigade and dolls - were saved. A rescue helipad was also set up for a seriously injured.

The implementation of such joint exercises is essential to improve cooperation in an emergency. Each exercise brings together the strength involved and shows how important coordinated action is to save life and minimize damage. It is obvious that the world of technical assistance is not only an exciting, but also a challenging one.
