Citizens' dialogue on the B2 relocation: Candidates will stand on January 29th!

The city of Fürstenfeldbruck is in an exciting phase of citizen participation and decision-making. A referendum recently took place on January 18, 2026 about the reallocation of the B2 federal highway from the city center. The decision was clear: around 73% of the votes were in favor of the transfer, while around 27% of citizens voted for the B2 to remain. This shows that the topics of transport and urban design are of great relevance for citizens. With almost 12,500 eligible voters taking part, the quorum of 5,500 votes was significantly exceeded. Experts emphasize that such a high level of interest represents a clear success for citizen participation, although the citizens' initiative “Remain B2” sees the vote as a defeat. Traffic officer Mirko Pötzsch from the SPD, however, sees the result as a step in the right direction that responds to the needs of residents.

The route for relocating the B2 should lead via Oskar-von-Miller-Straße to the outer Schöngeisinger Straße and the B471. Mayor Christian Götz expressed concerns about possible delays in the bridge renovation, which once again underlines the need for action. His counterpart and district administrator candidate Thomas Karmasin from the CSU also refers to the increasing demands and opportunities that arise from a redesign of the city center.

Citizens' dialogue on urban development

In the same week there will be another citizens' dialogue on the district election. Here voters will be able to meet candidates like the incumbent district administrator Thomas Karmasin and newcomers like Andreas Magg (SPD) and Stefan Weinberger (FW). All events promise interesting discussions in which the topics of urban development and citizen participation are the focus.

Citizen participation as a key to urban development

Citizen participation is not just a buzzword, but the central basis for active urban development. The involvement of citizens in planning processes is essential in order to meet the social, economic and ecological challenges of our time. This also includes giving citizens the opportunity to get involved right from the start in order to counteract the so-called “participation paradox”. In this context, it is important that information is provided transparently and that citizens are actively involved in the discussions.

The upcoming citizen dialogues are an excellent opportunity to hear the concerns of the population and incorporate them into future planning. According to experts, such events are crucial to both increasing the quality of life in the city and improving social conditions in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Active citizen engagement is essential.

We will of course continue to report on developments in Fürstenfeldbruck. Stay tuned!
