Germering indoor swimming pool shines after renovation: celebratory reopening!
The time has finally come: The indoor swimming pool in Germering opened its doors again after being closed for months and brought fresh water fun to all sports and leisure enthusiasts. The reopening was celebrated with a colorful program of games, children's entertainment and an exciting water Olympics. Children who took part in the neighboring city run were rewarded with free entry and contributed to the exuberant atmosphere. The closure of the pool became necessary after a routine inspection in the spring discovered serious defects, including rust on the suspended ceiling screws, which required immediate closure for safety reasons. After the renovation has been completed, schools, clubs and recreational swimmers are now looking forward to a punctual start to the indoor season.
Fortunately, the renovation work was completed on time and within the budget of around 450,000 euros. The installation of a new acoustic ceiling, which consists of moisture- and chlorine-resistant wood wool panels, now ensures a pleasant atmosphere. The ceiling itself has been spiced up with friendly blue squares and improves the acoustics throughout the bathroom. In addition, around 150,000 euros had to be invested in setting up the construction site to provide scaffolding and a walking floor for the workers, and even to drain water.
Challenges and solutions
Germering is in line with many municipalities that have to deal with the renovation of their indoor swimming pools. Thanks to the many indoor swimming pools that were built in the 1970s, extensive structural and technical modernizations have now become essential for most of these facilities. Renovation costs have risen sharply in recent years and in Wesseling, for example, it was found that the costs for the indoor garden swimming pool have increased from 7.75 million euros to 14.8 million euros, mainly due to unforeseen structural defects. Cities are therefore often faced with a financial challenge, as financing usually has to come from funding programs, investment loans and municipal funds, as evidenced by the challenges in Rinteln and Burghausen, where cost estimates have increased from 7.4 million euros to 16.5 million euros.
Given this reality, it is even more important that cities find long-term solutions to not only modernize indoor swimming pools, but also to create attractive and safe leisure opportunities for citizens. The demand for water and the demand for leisure activities is constantly increasing, and the attractiveness of cities will therefore continue to be tested. Careful financial planning and transparent citizen communication are crucial to securing household support for such projects.
The reopening of the indoor swimming pool in Germering can be seen as a positive sign in the midst of turbulent times. The municipal utilities have shown a good hand with the successful renovation and the pleasing fact that the indoor swimming pool is now open again is being celebrated by the entire district.
