Olching celebrates the start of the folk festival: Magg taps for the last time!

A happy occasion for Olching: On June 15, 2025, the 73rd Olchinger Volksfest was ceremoniously opened. Mayor Andreas Magg tapped the traditional Kaltenberg beer with three strong shots - an emblematic moment that thrilled not only the guests, but also the over 2,200 participants in the parade through the city. It was a special appearance for Magg, as he is standing for election as a candidate for district administrator next year and is thus saying goodbye to his office as mayor. His last official act at the folk festival was characterized by a good atmosphere, despite the summer temperatures, which gave the celebrations an additional charm.

The guest of honor, Luitpold Prince of Bavaria, also made an appearance, while those present were encouraged to support the numerous rides such as the Disco Flyer and the Break Dance on the festival grounds. The members of the Olchinger Madlverein in particular provided variety: they had battery-operated fans with them to counteract the constant heat. Tradition and conviviality come together at this folk festival, which many refer to as the “6th season” in Olching.

A colorful program for young and old

The folk festival, which lasts until next Sunday, offers a varied program: In addition to the traditional folk festival procession with Olching clubs, there are offers for young and old, including a children's painting competition and a fire brigade vintage car show, which also took place on June 15th. Among other things, the cabaret artist Roland Hefter appeared in the festival tent on June 12th and provided musical highlights, while a brilliant fireworks display rounded off the evening.

The festival is also a sociable meeting place for the entire family: visitors can enjoy Bavarian hospitality to the fullest with cool drinks and delicious food. And for the active ones, the program also includes sporting challenges, such as a boxing match. The city of Olching, in collaboration with the festival host family Widmann, breweries and numerous showmen, has put together a festival that lives up to its reputation and attracts both locals and tourists.
