Start of the season: SC Oberweikertshofen challenges promoted team Niedersonthofen!
On Saturday, July 18, 2025, the time has finally come: SC Oberweikertshofen starts the new football season as a newly crowned regional league team. The first game takes place away against the newly promoted SSV Niedersonthofen, a small town with only 900 inhabitants. The distance to the venue is around 140 kilometers – a challenge that is only surpassed by FC Sonthofen. With kick-off at 2 p.m. on the pitch in Waltenhofen, the game will hopefully be an exciting experience for everyone involved.
In order to get through the traffic safely, the SCO has organized a bus for the journey. The departure is at 10:15 a.m. from the club premises; fans also have the option of getting on in Grafrath at 10:45 a.m. Dominik Widemann, the sporting director, is already expecting a hard-fought encounter. “The newcomer could attract up to 600 spectators,” says Widemann, and that guarantees a lot of excitement and a good atmosphere in the stands.
Preparation and objectives
Preparation for the season began on June 19th with the start of training under the new trainers Pablo Pigl and assistant trainer Alexander Greif. In the period leading up to the season, the SCO had to make a few changes to the squad: Adnan Muminovic and Yenal Strauß, among others, left the club, while Carl Weser and Marc Egenhofer joined. Despite the departures, the squad is well positioned to take on the challenge in the national league, even if four players - including Yenal Strauß and Florian Roggermeier - cannot play against Niedersonthofen.
The preparation for the SCO was mixed. A planned game against SV Raisting had to be canceled, while the duel against Bayernliga club VfR Garching was won 2-0. An impressive 5:2 win against TuS Geretsried and the triumph in the Sparkassencup final against TSV Moorenweis, where the SCO won 6:1, show that the team is definitely convincing. However, they got a little out of step with the defeat against the A-youth team of TSV 1860 Munich (0:3) and the narrow 1:2 defeat against TUS Holzkirchen a few days ago.
Outlook and expectations
Coach Sven Teichmann has already observed SSV Niedersonthofen in a test match and describes the team as combative, but without much playing quality. The goal for the SCO is clear: start the new season with a win and secure the three points. Despite the injury problem, the team will do everything in its power to ensure the best possible start to the national league adventure.
