50 years of Peitinger Wellenfreibad: cheers, slides and party fun!

On August 6, 2025 the time has come: the Peitinger Wellenfreibad will celebrate its 50th anniversary. This anniversary looks back on an eventful history. The mud bath, which had been in use since the 1930s, was originally closed by the health department due to inadequate hygiene and safety standards. This led the community to think about building a new outdoor swimming pool, although the discussions in the market town council in the 1970s were sometimes heated. While the Peitinger CSU would have preferred to invest in other municipal projects, the SPD saw both health and social benefits in the new building. Ultimately, a narrow majority voted in favor of construction in 1974, and the opening took place in the summer of 1975, in keeping with the families' wishes. According to Merkur, the total costs for the outdoor pool at the time were 2.2 million deutschmarks, with the federal government and the Free State of Bavaria covering around half.

With the opening of the outdoor pool, the concept of a family pool was implemented. The wave system, which was added shortly before the planning was completed, continues to provide a lot of fun for young and old visitors to this day. In the warm season, many people enjoy the hourly waves in the large wave pool, which is also gently heated to 26 degrees. There is also a non-swimmer pool with a slide, an area for water games, a beach volleyball court, a tropical hangout for relaxation and a children's paddling pool. Anniversary celebrations

The celebrations for the wave outdoor pool's milestone birthday start on July 6th and last until July 12th, 2025. Numerous attractions await visitors to mark the anniversary. Everyone can look forward to discounted entry on the first day, while the highlight of the celebrations will be a giant 25 meter long inflatable slide. Entertainment is also planned with a bouncy castle, a swimming night with a DJ, grilled specialties and an aperol bar. On the last day, the closing ceremonies take place with a “beer garden and party feeling”. Everyone will have the opportunity to end the varied time at the outdoor pool together and in a sociable atmosphere.

In addition to the celebrations, the outdoor pool also offers a large play area and sunbathing area in the green area for privacy and relaxation. A kiosk with an outdoor and lounge area provides food and rounds off the offering.
