Nursing staff urgently needed: Red Cross launches appeal in Salzburg!

What exciting topic is there in Austria these days? The nursing shortage is not just a buzzword, but a reality that we urgently need to address. The Red Cross Salzburg is currently looking for nursing staff at all levels of training. The organization offers a wide range of nursing and care services, ranging from retirement homes and day centers to home care. Here, respectful treatment and a good working atmosphere are almost a given. The Red Cross relies on a working environment that focuses on people and their needs.

But what is driving the demand for nursing staff so high? According to optadata, demographic and epidemiological developments are on the agenda that will have a massive impact on healthcare in Austria. By 2030, the number of people over 85 will increase by 45%, bringing additional challenges in the care sector. At the same time, the working population is shrinking from 62% to 57%, making the fight for qualified personnel even more difficult.

A sad picture also emerges when you look at the working conditions of the nursing staff. Many are over 50 years old and will soon be retiring. In addition, the outdated training structure is unable to meet the increasing demand. Additional negative factors, such as unhealthy working hours and sometimes inadequate pay, do the rest to deter young people from pursuing a career in nursing.

The importance of health advice

In the midst of these challenges, telephone health advice has emerged at number 1450 made a name for himself since November 2019. The service is available around the clock and is an important contact point for health questions. Callers receive telephone advice from specially trained health staff who are keen to provide quick help with acute symptoms. Not only is the medical situation addressed here, but local knowledge about doctors and their opening hours is also provided. In an age where speed counts, this service is a bright spot in Austria's complex healthcare landscape.

In summary, one can say: The shortage of nursing staff is an issue that not only affects nursing facilities. The population is also required to find innovative solutions. If we want to meet the high standards of health care, we have to be active on both fronts: with staff and with health advice. The Red Cross Salzburg is leading the way and calling for action!
