Autumn tournament in Günzburg: Top performances despite the heat battle!
An exciting weekend for the equestrian athletes in Günzburg: The autumn tournament of the Günzburg Riding and Driving Club ranked at the top of the regional equestrian events. From September 19th to 21st, 2025, numerous participants and spectators came to watch exciting competitions and celebrate club life. But the high temperatures caused problems for both the riders and the horses. While the temperatures on Saturday were partly summery, they fortunately dropped slightly on Sunday, which had a positive effect on the number of starters.
RFV chairman Thomas Lang described how the heat stress was noticeable for the participants, but at the same time pointed out that the horses are well prepared for such challenges. “Our animals are used to high temperatures,” emphasized Lang. A practical step to relieve the burden on the riders was that they were allowed to compete without a jacket. This ensured a more relaxed competition atmosphere, Lang further explained in a [report in the Augsburger Allgemeine](https://www.augsburger- Allgemeine.de/guenzburg/sport/herbstturnier-des-rfv-guenzburg-sportliche-hoehe points-und-vereinsgeist-vereint-111223982).
Diverse competitions and high numbers of participants
The tournament days were peppered with varied tests. So Friday morning started at 8:30 a.m. with a riding horse test, where Schreinerei Burkhart GmbH from Günzburg sponsored the cash and honorary prizes. Saturday also saw lively participation with a high starter rate of 70 to 80 percent. Highlights included the show jumping competitions and the U16 and U21 championships, which were rewarded with attractive prizes.

In order not to underestimate the effects of the heat, the organizers also reminded people of the precautionary measures at the big CHIO in Aachen. These include, among other things, large fans and the provision of shaded areas for riders and horses. Otto Becker, national trainer of show jumpers, often emphasized that the horses tolerate the heat better than people, which was also noticeable at the tournament in Günzburg, although the conditions were challenging as the Tagesspiegel reports.
A successful conclusion and exciting prospects
On Sunday, September 21st, the district championship concluded with a celebratory award ceremony. The excellent achievements of the participants were duly recognized and it was nice to see how the club spirit remained alive despite the challenges.
