Spectacular height rescue exercise in LEGOLAND: rescue workers in action!
On May 20, 2025, a spectacular height rescue exercise took place at the LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort, which captivated everyone involved. How Lokalklick.eu reported, the professional fire brigades from Munich and Augsburg as well as the SAR Bundeswehr helicopter squadron from Niederstetten and a helicopter support team from Neuburg an der Donau were part of this large-scale training. In order not to disturb regular visitors, the exercises were carried out outside the park's opening hours.
The main goal of this exercise was to provide realistic training to emergency responders. Various scenarios were played out under demanding conditions, such as at the amusement park's observation tower, in the holiday village's high ropes course and in the surrounding forest areas at heights of up to 50 meters. These special challenges required specific rescue techniques that were learned and perfected by the emergency services.
Main actors and their roles
Manuela Stone, Managing Director of the LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort, emphasized the great importance of this exercise for the region. Christian Eisele, former operations manager of the Günzburg fire department, coordinated the entire event and praised the detailed planning and organization. The helicopter crew of the SAR helicopter squadron also commented on the high complexity of the exercise, which presented all participants with particular challenges.
A special thank you went to the volunteers as well as the operations managers and the Food & Beverage team, whose commitment contributed to the success of the exercise. Preparations are already underway for another height rescue exercise in 2026 next year.
Technological innovations to improve rescue
Another interesting aspect in rescue work is the new technology of the RECCO SAR helicopter detectors. How on zeitblatt.com reports, two such detectors have been stationed in Bavaria since the fall and are being used in Germany for the first time. This technology, which is already used in countries such as Austria, Switzerland and Italy, could significantly increase the efficiency of search operations.
The detectors weigh 80 kilograms and are attached to a ten-meter-long rope under the helicopter. In just six minutes they can search an area of one square kilometer, significantly reducing the time and risk for rescue workers.
RECCO technology in use worldwide
RECCO is a Swedish company founded in 1983 that specializes in the production of small passive transponders. These can be detected by RECCO detectors. According to information from tetoncountysar.org Over 125 outdoor brands, including well-known companies such as Arc'teryx, Patagonia, Salomon and Atomic, now integrate RECCO reflectors into their products, which can increase safety during outdoor sports.
However, it should be noted that these reflectors do not enable the owner to actively search, but only support finding a person with a corresponding detector. Thanks to these technological advances, mountain rescuers can now work significantly faster and safer.
With the integration of the RECCO detectors in Bavaria, rescue work is being redefined. The future looks bright, both for emergency responders and those who find themselves in dangerous situations.
