Cold shock from Siberia: Winter jackets are already necessary for Bavaria!

Gloomy prospects for Bavaria: Unfortunately, autumn did not show its best side. Instead of golden rays of sunshine, mild but increasingly fresh temperatures await us in the coming days. How Mercury reports, Hoch Sieglinde will bring us temperatures between 13 and 18 degrees until October 12th. However, these mild days are few and far between and soon give way to frosty conditions.

A cold front from Siberia is expected from October 14th, which could not only deal a blow to temperatures but also to tempers. A frost shock has been announced for parts of Bavaria on October 15th, with temperatures that can reach minus three degrees near the ground. In Munich and Nuremberg, highs of a maximum of ten or twelve degrees can be expected until October 17th - that's when it's time to get out your winter jacket!

Weather conditions and forecasts

BR shows that the nights are clear, especially in the Alps, while elsewhere it is mostly cloudy. Lows could even be as low as 2 degrees. On Sunday, sunny hiking weather is forecast in the high altitudes of the Alps, but the further outlook remains cloudy: after individual areas of fog have been cleared, it will remain mostly cloudy. Rain is not completely ruled out.

Together with cold nights, the weather situation will not change much throughout the week. Highs of 11 to 17 degrees are expected during the day, but only very modest warmth at higher altitudes. “Not exactly inviting for a trip,” you might say.

Climatic developments in Bavaria

LFU Bavaria shows that the mean annual temperature in Bavaria rose significantly from 1984 to 2022. The warming is evident, and the mean annual temperature has increased by 1.9°C since the middle of the 20th century. Worrying numbers that underline how important climate protection is.

The year 2022 was the warmest on record, and forecasts suggest that temperatures could continue to rise - without a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The Bavarian state government has even committed to becoming climate neutral by 2040, which is becoming an urgent necessity given the growing pressure on our resources.

In this sense, the upcoming freezing temperatures may also be a reminder to prepare for the hotter days and the environmental problems that come with them. Bavaria's diverse climate and natural regions need support more than ever to overcome the enormous challenges of global warming.
