On Tuesday, FC Ingolstadt started preparations for the coming season under the leadership of Sabrina Wittmann. The start of training was well attended, as 23 field players and two goalkeepers took up the challenge. Only left-back Linus Rosenlocher was missing because he had to undergo a sports medical examination.
The new additions also brought a breath of fresh air to the team. Shortly before training began, Dennis Kaygin was signed. The 21-year-old comes from Rapid Vienna, where he was under contract until 2026, and was most recently active at Willem II in the Netherlands. Sports director Ivica Grlic highlights Kaygin's variability in central midfield, which will certainly benefit the team. Other new faces are Frederik Christensen (24), who comes from Tromsø IL (loan with option to buy), and Markus Ponath (24), who returns from FV Illertissen. Donald Nduka (22, defender) from Hessen Kassel and Arvid Schenk (35, goalkeeping coach) are also returning.
Personal details and transfers
While the team is restructuring, there are also some departures to report. Striker Tim Heike is leaving FCI after just three goals in one season and moving to MSV Duisburg. Niclas Dühring, another left-back, is about to transfer to Karlsruher SC and was also not present at the start. Leon Guwara, also a defender, could potentially leave the club as there is a transfer demand for him.
Wittmann is satisfied with her coaching team and the new additions. She emphasizes that running fitness is very important during the summer break. “We have to build a hungry team,” emphasizes the new head coach, who is calm about the personnel changes. This season will be a challenge for FC Ingolstadt, as improvements are needed in various positions - especially goalkeeper, central defender and striker.
