Citizen information on the B12 expansion: consultation hours on July 3rd in Kaufbeuren!
Something is happening in Kaufbeuren: The Kempten State Building Authority has announced a new step towards a comprehensive expansion of the B12. On Thursday, July 3rd, those responsible are inviting citizens to consultation hours in the town hall (old building, 2nd floor). From 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., residents have the opportunity to clarify their questions about the B12 expansion and gain an insight into the planning approval documents. These discussions are specifically intended for directly affected citizens and are limited to 20 minutes each. If you would like to make an appointment, you can easily do so by calling the city of Kaufbeuren on 08341/437-102.
But what exactly is on the agenda for the expansion of the B12? Section C, which extends from Hirschzell to Untergermaringen, will be completed shortly. As part of the planning approval, a decision is made, among other things, which pieces of land are needed for road construction. Noise protection measures and public law issues such as waste law or monument protection are also on the agenda. The application for planning approval will soon be submitted to the government of Swabia Mercury reported.
Planning approval process in the starting blocks
The four-lane expansion of the B12 between Buchloe and Untergermaringen is now also a hot topic. Loud Circle messenger The city councilors are already considering the decision to expand it to four lanes, even though the bridge on the B12 near Jengen was opened to traffic six years ago - but the four-lane expansion was not in the plan at that time. The goal: the entire route from Kempten to Buchloe, which covers 51 kilometers, is to be developed like a motorway. The necessary preparatory work has already been completed.
The planning approval decision requires a public display of the documents, which will last four weeks. Citizens then have another four weeks to submit objections in writing to the Swabian government. These objections are then evaluated and dealt with in discussion meetings. The question also remains critical as to whether potential construction stops will lead to delays, which would have to be clarified legally.
Insights into public procedures
Those responsible for the Federal Highway Office (FBA) are responsible for the consultation and plan approval procedures in Germany. Since January 1, 2021, they have taken on the task of optimizing and accelerating procedures in order to increase public acceptance. This is done through extensive participation opportunities and transparent processes. The project sponsors are advised to carry out early public participation in order to identify and resolve conflicts before the official applications are submitted.
So we have an exciting year ahead of us! With the focus on the expansion of the B12 and the associated planning, not only will the infrastructure in the region be improved, but also the connection of Kaufbeuren into the 2030 transport management plan. Playing football with traffic – that could soon be very popular!
