Kaufbeuren is planning a new care campus: A departure into the future!

The building committee in Kaufbeuren has made an important decision. A change to the usage and development plan for the care campus at Afraberg was recommended, and without any dissenting votes. This could significantly change the cityscape. As the Mercury reports, the area will be converted from a mixed area into a special area, clearing the way for a new care campus.

Impressive facilities are planned that offer both child care and living space for employees. Two daycare centers with a total of 14 groups, an after-school care center with three groups, a school preparatory daycare center and a curative education daycare center are in prospect. Small apartments are also being built to provide a home for the carers. This mix of social facilities and living space shows a well-thought-out concept for strengthening the community.

Sustainability and monument preservation

Sustainability plays a big role in this project. The new buildings will be constructed using wood or wood hybrid construction, which will significantly increase energy efficiency. This is not only good for the environment, but also for the city climate GoSolar GmbH emphasized. When renovating the listed foundry building, great emphasis is placed on resource-saving measures that also ensure the preservation of the historical substance.

The discussion about these renovations brings with it both challenges and opportunities. For example, modern standards and monument protection must be reconciled, which can entail financial and technical hurdles. Nevertheless, through innovative concepts, historic buildings can be redesigned to be energy efficient without losing their cultural value. The use of fresh, regional materials is a key factor and also supports the local economy.

Traffic safety and development

Another important detail is the planned widening of the sidewalk on the eastern edge of the Hohe Buchleuthe road. In the future, this will be widened to two and a half meters to enable safe pick-up and drop-off traffic. This shows that the planning is not just about new facilities, but also about the safety of the children.

The city council's decision on the planned change is expected in July. This means that Kaufbeuren could soon take an important step towards a sustainable and child-friendly future that takes into account both the needs of citizens and the preservation of a valuable cultural heritage.
