Storm warning in the Allgäu: Strong thunderstorms threaten until the evening!
July 15, 2025 has a few surprises in store for the Allgäu region, as the German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a severe weather warning. Severe thunderstorms are forecast for several areas and the public is urged to exercise caution. The districts of Unterallgäu and Ostallgäu as well as the city of Memmingen are particularly affected. These warnings are valid until 3 p.m., while thunderstorms can be expected in Oberallgäu and Kaufbeuren until 4 p.m. However, there are no warnings in Lindau and Kempten, which represents a small ray of hope for the residents of these cities. Allgäuer Zeitung reports that the thunderstorms are particularly in the north of the Allgäu raise.
The weather situation is influenced by a cold front that is moving over from the British Isles and is causing changeable weather. According to Wetterfähren.de, severe thunderstorms are expected not only in the Allgäu, but also in the northwest, east and southeast of Germany. In these regions, stormy gusts of up to 80 km/h and heavy rain of up to 35 l/sqm are possible within a short period of time. Small-grain hail could also accompany the thunderstorms. The warnings were only updated at 2:31pm today, highlighting the importance of ongoing weather monitoring.
Dangers & Predictions
The DWD warning levels range from level 1 (weather-related hazards possible) to level 4 (life-threatening extreme storms). Level 2 currently applies, which implies significant weather events and possible damage from storms. There is a risk of lightning strikes, falling trees, falling objects and rapid flooding, especially of streets and underpasses. Hydroplaning is also a major risk when the roads are wet. The DWD warns urgently and advises people to avoid spending time outdoors when thunderstorms strike.
In addition, the risk of severe weather is expected to continue into Wednesday night. Isolated thunderstorms could occur again and again in the northwest, with gusts of up to 55 km/h not being ruled out. On Wednesday itself there will be an almost nationwide thunderstorm with isolated heavy rainfall of up to 20 l/sqm in a short period of time. The Severe Weather Center keeps the population informed around the clock about current developments and offers detailed information on upcoming storms.
With special attention
Signs point to changeable weather and both residents and travelers should prepare for the impending storms. The recommendations are clear: the best entertainment takes place indoors, and going outside should be carefully considered. Risk reduction measures are needed and it remains to be hoped that the storms will pass without major damage. Visitors and residents are advised to keep an eye on official weather warnings and react to changes in the weather situation.
